Do the infected look worse this time around in the game? Imparticular the clickers? My blood always went cold when I heard them in the first game.

I killed one runner earlier and his scream sent a shiver down my spine. It freaked me right out ahaha.

Visually pretty similar to the first i think, runners seem way more aggressive though. Clickers are still bastards.

Yeah Runners seem to be slightly more aggressive this time, they also seem to be a bit more unpredictable in their movement which adds a little more challenge (that's on first impression, I'm sure you could find a pattern handy enough if you watched them for a bit). Shamblers are awful hoors to deal with, especially when you get cornered by a couple of them in the dark. Haven't come across these new types of infected yet that Naughty Dog teased.

I really like the semi-open world parts, there are areas that you don't need to go near and might miss completely, but if you do explore then you could be rewarded with supplies or new items to craft. Plus the more you look around, the more little stories you uncover of things that happened around and after the outbreak. I think I missed a few things from Downtown Seattle, such as the scene in the guitar shop I've since read about. I presume I won't get to go back to look around the same areas in this playthrough(I'm just about to go the hospital), so if you're not thorough enough there's a good amount of stuff to be found on a replay later.

On the combat, it's definitely nothing revolutionary, they pretty much just refined what was in the first game and added a few wrinkles. I don't mind that though tbh. I did find that once you get to human patrols with dogs, it adds something new to the combat, as if you don't stay far enough from the dogs and keep moving away from them, they'll pick up your scent quick enough. So it would be alot tougher to go through in full stealth mode I imagine. Whatever about having to kill the dogs, I didn't expect to feel as bad about hearing a dog whine and whimper after I'd killed his owner!

I'm starting to get a little bored by the repetition in the gameplay. Really like the first couple of hours but it has been tapering off for me ever since.

Another gripe for me is the "yellow pole" or "yellow painted piece of concrete" or pretty much "yellow anything" that is your next ledge. A feature in the uncharted series too.

Same - I'm only a few hours in but the sections with infected are already repetitive and boring. The stealth and AI are pretty poor.

Visually it's very impressive and I'm loving the attention to detail, but the game isn't quite clicking for me yet.

Are yous into Seattle long, or at all, yet? The combat with humans is better from what I've seen so far, plus new types of infected only show up later on.

If I see infected near human enemies I either throw a bottle or fire a gun near them and set the infected on the humans picking off any stragglers myself. With humans I try and stealth kill as much as possible especially when low on ammo

Yeah the bullets don't be long going when you have a number of humans around, if you can't keep it stealthy. Even though I'm playing on hard I very rarely have a lack of resources for crafting, but I'm always low on bullets.

I love it! playing on pro on a c9 oled TV and it's stunning looking. I love the world, story etc I'd say I'm about 6 hours in or so

How are ye finding hard? I'm playing on normal but planning a survivor run and then easy run for collectibles and trophies. Not sure if I'd get more out of my first playthrough on hard though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,415 ✭✭✭.G.

I'm usually a normal difficulty guy but went with hard this time. Its not hard imo! Considering bumping it to survivor mid game to be honest. The newest kind of infected is a bit of a git so I tend to just stealth my way past them if possible.

Yeah finding hard easy enough too. You can customise the difficulty so you can have enemies on survivor difficulty and leave the rest on hard

Got as far as the game opening up in Seattle last night, as mentioned, seems a great balance between going full open world and keeping the game a linear affair.

Combat with the infected is as mind numbing as ever which is a bit disappointing. I was hoping for a bit of an evolution with the stealth mechanics and their AI but it's business as usual; watch the infected shamble along a linear path, and pretty much creep up on them from any angle you want due to how narrow their field of vision seems to be. Clickers are laughably easy to deal with as well to the point where I'm just not feeling this crazy tension everyone seems to be feeling. You can literally just sit in their path and trigger a stealth kill from the front once they are within range.

Hoping the human AI lives up to the hype. The awful combat was passable in a 15 hour experience with Part 1, but if it remains as mundane as it is right now over a 25-30 hour experience I could see me shelving this before finishing it despite how much I'm enjoying the story and in awe of the technical aspects of the game.

Yeah I don't find hard too bad tbh. Like when you come up against a tricky group of infected or alot of human enemies, I might die a couple of times before I figure out the right way to approach it. That's just what I want from an initial playthrough though tbh, a bit of a challenge but not so much that it pisses me off. So I'll probably leave it as is unless it gets easier again. I do find the resources very plentiful for hard though as I said before, so I might crank that part up to survivor difficulty.

Would that make it so you still get plenty of resources? I don't want to miss out on upgrades. Don't mind on a survivor run as they're suppose to be scarce .

Edit: nvm, didn't see your last post, great stuff man!

The stalkers offer a much better challenge. They run away and circle back. Creepy pricks scuttling around. When you get a mix of 3 or 4 different infected it can get hectic.

I'm about 10 hours in. As the game has went by the AI has got a lot better. At the beginning I found it more dull than what it is now... I keep wondering about where its gonna end. I dont think my current destination will be but I cant wait for the twists and turns to arrive.

Overall there is some places I just found down right boring. But overall they are fairly small compare to the experience of the game.

Without trying to give anything away this game is easy a solid 8 or 9 so far.

Very impressive. Even the wife sometimes sits down to watch a bit with me lol

Just a quick edit. I reckon this game has a lot of replay value as the first experience may have missed some places not by choice...

And the transition from cutscene to gameplay is flawless

    Emm...

Emm...whats your point? I wrote that way before the game was released so was speculative and what has anything I said got anything to do with women leads in games? I oppose the ideology attached to some games/films in the past especially ideology that discriminates but it has nothing to do with women themselves, A good writer/director can make a good game regardless.
Now that the game is out the user score on meta critic shows that the majority of people have issues with the game and as I said it is to do with Story beats, bleak hopeless world and the writing.

God I wish the noise to let you know you can craft something wasn't very close to the sound of a gun cocking.

Scared the life out of me more than once.

The people review bombing it to give it a negative score are not the majority of people. There a bunch of sad acts who aren't even going to play the game.

Keep an eye out in one of the buildings early on in the game for a really cool Naughty Dog Easter Egg

    Was that the porno tape
    Crush Brandi's Cootch
? If so, that's one of the best Easter eggs ever :pac:

    I went from:
    "not gonna play it"
    To
    "Gonna play my nephew's copy"
    To
    "****ing love this"
    To
    "Oh this is awesome"
    To
    "Hmmm...this again?"
    To
"Oh... A dumpster needs to be conveniently moved again"
    To
"Oh... The enemies will move here again"
    To
    "Oh, here we go again".

It's a good game wrapped inside a great games skin.

Im 5 hours in so far and I am both in awe with the game and dont know how I feel at the same time . In terms of world building , the dialouge between the characters , and some of the more quiet scenes I really truly love about this game . Naughty Dog are talented at their craft making you feel like you belong with the characters whether it be uncharted or last of us and you want to follow them on their journey . The problem then arrives when you enter in combat , it might be more fluid than Last of us part 1 but for me its very dull , at least so far and its not the moment I am most looking forward to when they come .

I felt with the first game , the gameplay aspect took the back seat and all the efforts of the development team went into the narrative parts .
Here I feel the same , but it irks me alittle bit more just how safe it feels that they couldnt expand or revolutionise its combat mechanics all these years later.

I must be one of the few playing this on an easy difficulty (one step down from the default). I'm looking for a minimal stress run so I can enjoy the story. Done about 20 minutes in Seattle so far.

This game, like the last one, is all about the immersion and the story. The tension it builds and the bond with the characters. Second to none in that regard.

To be honest the actual game mechanics are a bit crap, same as the last one. So are the button setups. And Ellie moves and fights like she's twice the weight that she actually is.

My biggest problem with the controls is the map button, oddly. Feels like there’s a one or two second lag before Ellie opens it. That the inventory is also mapped to the touchpad doesn’t help.

    Just finished the lodge.
Jesus, that was shocking to watch, not because of the violence, but because I'm so wrapped up in the story and attached to Joel. I wasn't expecting that to be the event that kicked off the revenge plot. I mean, I've seen the 'Joel dies' and 'Joel really doesn't like golf har har' comments on social media multiple times since the leaks (by the way, **** that leaker and **** anyone who posted spoilers) bit i wasn't expecting it that soon. I think it's interesting i was controlling Abby before that. She obviously has her reasons and I'm interested in where the story goes.

As Ellie, I plan to voilently kill everyone i come across which i believe ND intended for the player to feel.

    On we go...
