Looks like the 8:30 car park closure is only for entrants, I thought it was for spectators aswell. I also asked if thered be a fair bit of parking for spectators and they said that the location is used to holding large events so there should be plenty of parking available.

The website says that the car park closes at 8:30, but the information leaflet I got from them with my race number says 8:45, so there will probably be a bit of leeway on the 8:30 cut off.

Loads of parking IF they open up all the areas they use to host Flavours of Fingal etc. The actual normal day to day car park is very small.

I assume they will open all the available parking.

I asked that question, apparently carpark reopens as soon as race has started.

I drove part of the course earlier up through Lusk and left UP to the Man of War pub.... a long steady incline for about a mile with a even more tricky bit at the top
    - might have to go into the pub for some liquids!! 😉
But then the good news an even longer and steeper decline for the next 4 or so miles👠my half PB might have to wait but at least we'll all have a PB on this course 😆

The drink station at mile 6 will be very welcome! Good incline on the Lusk-Skerries road before you turn towards the MOW as well. It's going to be a v tough middle section.

Don't let the negative thoughts in folks......if it's not tough you're not doing it right:p.
Just because the hills might cause a spike in 'race pain' doesn't mean you have to suffer more.
Welcome the pain- it means you're working hard enough, manage the effort on the up and mentally and physically relax on the down. Stay engaged and don't let your mind wonder too much- it's too easy for it to wonder onto negative thoughts. Don't underestimate how much of racing is mental- if you leave the door ajar with thoughts of 'this is going to be hilly', 'this is going to be tough' don't be surprised when the demons push the door wide open mid race.
There will be hills, there will be tough sections, make a deal with yourself now.....allow yourself permission to embrace those moments and push through- You've got this:cool:

“You tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is, never try.” Homer.

Attempting my first (and last?) half-marathon tomorrow. Just did 10k up till late August.

    Good luck everyone!

Edit: just seen the course video on Facebook, looks like mile 7 is the biggest climb.

Yeh, in between leaving Lusk (mile 4) and the turn at the Man O'War pub (mile 7) is where all the serious climbs and twisty roads are.

    Just enjoy the day.
Dont be tempted to go out any faster than your planning/training.
It's a huge achievement and you'll get a great boost from your fellow runners and the support along the route :)
I had my first half two years ago now I'm 7 halves and 3 marathons later.... so enjoy it and you'll be back for many more!

Oh and as mentioned PBs for all tomorrow (on this course!) ;)

Going to take it handy till the turn at mile 7 and then give the remaining 10k a good rattle, it'll be a negative split no doubt anyway.

There is zero mobile data signal in Newbridge in my experience of trying to get online with both 3 and Vodafone. Even WhatsApp don't send or take an age so have a back up plan.

    Standing room only now..

Traffic is chaotic on the M1. Don't think I'm going to make the start, whatever about the car park. Stuck in a tailback 6k away and not moving :(

    Entirely predictable traffic chaos ensues

Same here, queue on M1 - everyone is queuing on the emergency lane, not sure if this is a good idea but better than blocking a lane of M1 I guess.

Traffic is shocking, they will need to reassess the traffic situation if its to be here again this year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,133 ✭✭✭andrew1977

Traffic at dangerous levels on exit 4 for Donabate on M1, cars sprawled into hard shoulder lane, exit lane and some even stopped on left hand lane trying to get into the exit lane. Madness! Not a sign of a guard anywhere.
