To be fair, it is quite possible OP was given a work phone but no guidance how to use it. I'd never heard of AirWatch until now either..

    OK - Sorry. :o

OP - It appears to be a Mobile Device Management (MDM) agent. Presumably you have a work phone, so this app is used by your employer to protect company data on the device, allow remote wiping and to enforce company policies on internet use, amongst other things.

    - Phone number, signal strength, cell tower, carrier, IMEI#, and other WWAN attributes
    - First and last name and email address of device user
    - Data usage through WWAN interface (excluding content)
    - Transaction history regarding SMS, email and phone calls, excluding the content of messages and calls.
    - Device check-out/check-in: tracking who uses which device as well as the physical status of the device at the start of a shift and then again at the end of a shift
    - Tracking of associated device assets, including service plan and associated physical equipment (i.e., cradles, etc.)
    - Tracking of applications loaded on the device (excluding content)
    - Real-time GPS location tracking and mapping, including analysis of location data and history
    - Mobile device remote control, including screen capture.

They also provide this website with info for employees: https://whatisairwatch.com

You should find out from your company what info they collect as it can vary depending on how they have it configured. Be aware that they can remotely wipe the phone so make sure any personal items are backed up (photos etc.).

Most big companies that provide work phones to employees use it or an equivalent MDM suite. As above it allows them to control phones and mobile devices and manage applications that the company may install on your phone such as Airwatch Mail (basically Outlook) and to keep these updated. They can also push other apps to the device, most companies will have a calendar and contacts app that is kept up to date.

It can wipe a device remotely if it's stolen and connected to the 'net in some way. It allows the company to take inventory of devices and they can wipe and re-assign returned phones so they can re-used.

I've used the management system and it's quite scary what it's capable of but as it's their device they can do what they like with it ! If you're worried about being tracked get another private phone for when you're not in work would be my advice.

Vodafones MDM and VPN product is a quite the dumb puppy, lets you access the company network with any old device that joins a hotspot created by the device.

Used by a certain very large government body..
