I have the multi user set up and it works fine. The option appeared under the GH on the Home app. Both accounts can still access the same Google Music account, but you can add a second account for the other user.

Got mine today having impulse bought (and sold again) an Echo in the Prime sale and then realised it wouldn't work with Google Play Music without workarounds when I subscribe to the family deal.

I'm surprised at how easy it was to setup and get going where I struggled to get the Echo set to my location. Voice recognition is much better on the Google Home. It found my Shield TV and Chromecast immediately and it's pretty much instant casting music and video to the Shield. I had to set the language to US to get the use of Harmony and Stringify. I already had some IFTTT applets configured for Google Assistant on my phone, set HUE scenes, turn all lights off, set heating on manual with Netatmo thermostat

It showed on my phone a few days before it would show on my wifes phone.
Poor experience setting it up though

Just to follow up on this. Multi account looks like its working. Google recognises both of us, and uses my wifes Google Music account when she plays music, and mine when I play music.

Did you have the 'Multi-User is now available' notification when you opened the Home app?

I can't see any option in setting or anywhere to setup multi user yet, is there something else I need to do to get the notification? My device is running firmware version 1.25.90387 but not sure if that's the latest firmware or if I have to do something myself to update it.

This is the same for me. Running GH with the following, but no sign of the multi-user option either. GH gets turned off and on every day so plenty of opportunity to update. No idea what the issue is and it's now a month since this was rolled out.

    System Firmware: 90387
    Cast Firmware: 1.25.90387
    Language: English (UK)
    Country Code: IE

Every time I ask for an old song on Spotify she plays some obscure remix rather than the original. Driving me bonkers.

How the hell do I get HARMONY working on this ?

Have set language to US, on phone and computer but is there something more that needs to be done?

What way did Pabl Picasso expect this thread to go?

In the charter it says don't be a dick, you are being very nasty to a poster on this thread to someone who has been very respectful considering the personal digs he has been on the receiving end of.

It is my opinion that there is an subset of older women who are indeed bitter about the fact that men are more attracted to younger women.

These type of women will often try to emphasise the point that older men wouldn't be able to attract younger women, they say this out of bitterness.

They will often criticise such relationships, and their criticism can sometimes be valid, but they are just looking for any reason to criticose it. The true motivation ia the bitterness.

    You lost?

That's great and all, but how does it help me get multiuser set up on my Google Home?

That depends, is it a younger more attractive woman your adding or an elderly bitter woman.:o

It does raise some interesting questions though:-

Who is younger, Google home or alexa?
If you put them both in the same room will they be jealous of each other?

Any thoughts on this? I don't remember seeing the Irish launch:rolleyes:

It might be worth it if signing up to new credit account and get 20% discount (Paying it off immediately of course)

    Was €180.00 Now €179.99

Thats right, 1cent off and it's only just gone up, that's some deal:D

But that's why I mention the 20percent discount as that brings it back to same price as uk. But you need a new credit account so does not work for me.

Bloody annoying how stuff continues to stop working. I know it is new-ish and it will improve. I pretty much use mine for radio, and it will not play RTE 2FM any more. I looked for "RTEed FM but it is not available" or whatever it says. Each of us in the family has tried saying it a number of ways but no luck. Very annoying to have to cast from tunein to just play a radio. We have ended up using the old radio instead. It now has decided that all the hue lights are unavailable. Genius stuff.

I've noticed the same behaviour myself with certain radio stations but I just tried "RTE 2FM" and it worked for me. Last week it wouldn't play Classic FM at all until I discovered I needed to say "play Classic FM UK". This week "play Classic FM" works.

It is a bit bonkers the way it seems to go backwards and forwards. Nowhere near as bad as the Amazon Echo I had though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,473 ✭✭✭jogdish

I have issues whenever I ask it anything with RTE, It never understands me. However just saying "ok google play radio 1" works fine, as does "okay google play 2fm"

I've both GHome and the Echo and I find Echo worse for this.

However the real cause of this issue is tunein, rather then an issue specific to Ghome/Alexa.

It seems tunein is more like a search engine and it keeps changing over time. It is a pity you can't create a tunein account and create presets, favourites, etc. Would help fix the issue.

Does anybody here have Sky Sports in their news sources?

I lost it a month ago and can't get it back. Annoying.

Tunein does let you create an account and save favourites or do you mean on the Ghome side?

    Yes, but not on GHome/Alexa.

Netatmo Thermostat just popped up in Linked Services on GHome. Added but not tested it yet. I joined the preview program today, not sure if it's related.

Google Home can now call any number for free.. if your in the US or Canada. Wonder if they will ever roll that out here, unlikely. Possible that US google homes over here might receive it? :p One can hope

I have google voice and use it on my android from Ireland to call USA for free. Just tried on my Google Home and it does not work unfortunately!

Is it set to English USA? I've mine set to USA as there is no Harmony support when set to UK, there are lots of others as well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,407 ✭✭✭OldBean

And does it work? For ringing US numbers free from Ireland?

That'd be fantastic if so. I'd no idea.

Rumors of a small form factor Google home to be announced later this year

I am unable to connect my wemo smart plug to my google home.

I have sharing enabled on my wemo app. I go into the google home app, add device, tap wemo, it sees me turn on/off the plug I tap yes that is me - the page reloads to a blank page, then nothing. I go back to the google home app, i still see the list of smart device manufactuers, and there is no device listed for my home.

Is there something Im doing wrong?

Casting to multiple devices (create a group in the home app) is pretty slick

Is there a reason that they don't allow your phone to be a google home hub?

Would this not make the most sense for bedroom use to control you system with your phone on the bedside locker?

Does Google assist work with Google home? Can I use my phone in bedroom to get Google home to turn lights on? Can assist play music on Google home and any chrome cast audio speakers? Basically can my phone act like an echo dot for home, it has everything needed, mic, speaker, Wi-Fi, etc.

Or do they work independently from each other?

I can ask Google to control my lights and heat from my phone or my google home.

My phone however is not an ideal solution, it is not designed for audio (mic and speakers) to the extent that the home has.

They have most of the same functions in fact when I say ok Google in the same room as the Google home my phone displays answering on another device. I can get the exact same information replies and can control my Hue lights, Harmony remote, Netatmo thermostat, Phlex TV etc all from Google assistant on my phone. The mini Google home that Google are proposing would not have a big speaker either like the dot. So to answer your question a phone is already like a dot

Just being pedantic, The Google Assistant that comes with Google Home and the Pixel is very different to the OK Google assistant that came with phones for years.

The GHome assistant is now being rolled out to all phones. But GHome was actually one of the first devices to have it.

True, I'm forgetting I've had Ghome assistant a long time ago on my OnePlus One using an Xposed module and I now have it on my OP5 by setting to USA english

Okay Thanks, but I'll ask the question a different way.

What will the new rumored small Google home offer over using your phone?

It will be a fixed device in the room
It will have better far field microphones
Will it have a better speaker??

    Is there anything else?

I have since installed Google assist on my phone and will start playing and exploring with this and try to get it working with google home when it arrives.

    Thanks

Interesting Google Assistant powered alternative to the Google Home (or perhaps it's more of an alternative to their dot equivalent if/when it arrives) on the way from Anker.

$70 - sounds like a decent option for rooms where you just want another Assistant but where the emphasis isn't really on a better quality speaker.

Can see myself getting one of these for rooms where I already have a decent speaker set-up with audio chromecasts - like the kitchen and living room - just to answer occasional questions etc - and I'll use my GHome in the bedroom where the sound from the its speaker is plenty good enough imo.

The second one looks really nice but Anker make great products so I'd lean more to that one.

Anyone get a message to unlink devices on their google home to perform a necessary upgrade ?

I did it, and now I can't reconnect my devices (nest therm and hue lights).

Assistant on my phone is fine, just my google homes have stopped working with them

Yeah, I got a message when controlling my nest via voice that I needed to do it. I did, and couldn't relink them, and hue dissapeared completely, and wouldn't allpw me reconnect.

I've got one home working now by doing a factory restore and configuring again, but the other two still need to be done.

    Bit of a pain this.
