I got a notification on my phone yesterday about updating home & work locations. Looks like its added what days & time you travel so you can set just to give it on Monday to Friday. So won't be notified any longer on a Saturday that its 22 minutes to work :)

Thanks. I deleted and re-entered my work address and that seems to have fixed it.

Just picked up a google home, does anyone know if you can control an LG smart tv from it?

You'll need to have the magic remote and even at even at that it's not supported in Ireland so you'll have to try get around that.

Ah right so it’s not something straightforward!

If it's 2018 model it should have Google assistant built in, according to LG they're hoping to make it available in ROI later this year. I had the magic remote but brought it back and bought myself the chromecast ultra.

    Is the chrome cast good?

    Is the chrome cast good?

I had the regular Chromecast and found the quality on my 48" HD (not 4K) TV horrid.
Chromecast Ultra works a treat however, so much better than the built-in cast feature! It's also incredibly fast and stable as it's cabled to the router, so only the casting device (phone, laptop, iPad, whatever) is on wifi, and the router-chromecast-tv connection is wired
Yeah it costs a bit more than the regular Chromecast, but imo the quality you get is totally worth it!

If you're buying a Chromecast get the very new one with Ethernet, only just available here in the last few days, Currys and Harveys have them but you may have to ask

Sorry to be dense but how do I activate this? Asked Google "tell me a story" but I get a jokey reply. I suspect it's the usual problem of setting the language to US or something like that. Have mine set to Ireland for the RTE News bulletin.

Probably a stupid question, but is it possible to view and manage my alarms through the Google Home phone app? Or do I have to talk to the mini itself?

Isn't that the Chromecast Ultra? I've had one (from DiD Electrical in Bray) since at least first half of last year. Costs significantly more than the regular Chromecast but you get the higher res and the ethernet connection

Yeah, they're only officially available here in the last week or so.

Aha, that's the 3rd Gen Chromecast in the article, not the Ultra. Ultra current offering is still the same as last year (checked the UK Google Store to make sure I wasn't seeing things). Don't see any mention of 3rd gen regular Chromecast having Ethernet though??? Still just the Ultra that offers that feature, though the regular seems to have general performance boosts over the 2nd gen regular Chromecast

What are the actual benefits of chromecast? So I have google home that I got as a present yesterday, also smart tv with Netflix on it. All iPhone users in the house.

Don’t really use any other services other than Netflix for tv, I suspect the chromecast wouldn’t be worth it for someone like me?

Other than being able to switch the tv on/off using the google home?

Do you ever watch YouTube videos?

Also can ask Google to watch Netflix and she'll start up the TV, start up the Netflix app on the TV, and play or resume your show. You can also pause/resume, next episode by voice

Ah my mistake. I have a friend said he got a new 3rd gen one, that it wasn't on display in Harveys, that he had to ask for it. I guess he got an ultra if it has Ethernet.

I've only recently been prompted by the home itself to find a recipe I wanted online and click send to Google home , and she'll then go through the recipe with me, but I'm not getting any send to Google home option on my search results.

I have the bedside lights named and since last night, Assistant can't understand my own name and just says it has no ability to do what I've asked it to do hundreds of times (turn on/off NAME side light). Partners name still works.

I do have an Irish language, untranslatable first name but its pretty common!

I've Ikea plugs on each side for the electric blanket, named for me and the missus.

No issue with her name, but if I ask GH to turn on the (R.O.R) blanket, she says "Turning off the (R.O.R) blanket.

To get just mine to work, turn the (stupid american pronunciation of my shortened first name) on, it then works.

Turn on/turn off Blankets works no problem though.

L1011 - how does it pronounce your name when GH says it? Try using that pronunciation...

Properly - it has started to work again weirdly.

    google interpreter mode now working....

    Say "Ok Google."
    Say a command, like:
    Be my Italian interpreter.
    Help me speak Spanish.
    Interpret from Polish to Dutch.
    Chinese interpreter.
    Turn on interpreter mode.
If you haven’t identified languages, choose which languages you want to use.
When you hear the tone, start speaking in either language. You don’t have to alternate between languages for interpreter mode to work.
On a Smart Display, you’ll both see and hear the translated conversation.

To stop using interpreter mode, say a command like:

    Stop.
    Quit.
    Exit.

    Tried that without specifying language.

Guten abend resulted in me getting public transport directions to Navan on my phone - presumably "go to Navan" - despite getting an acknowledgment that it was in translation mode.
