    Mountains in Maam this morning

    Mountains in Maam this morning

The mountains here, not too far from you, are much the same in snow.... although hail is pelleting down viciously even now.

Looking at the streams, in every cleft, flowing strong and full down the dark mountains. The stream in the garden a torrent.

And at the back here, the downpipe from the roof, spilling snow on the ground like soap lather....

The hail is sticking.. if we get more tonight will be an awesome sight in the morning.

Does hail depend simply on temperature?

Its been another calm dry day here so far, cold and partly cloudy, getting up only to six degrees.
Nothing ominous looking in the sky yet either.

Watching the forecast, it's giving showers here in West Clare tonight and a temperature or -2c, I can't see both happening sadly :(

Supposed to be heading there tomorrow for a hike over the Maulin, Tonduff South, source of the Dargle River, Warhill and Djouce.
How is access on foot currently for these areas?
Can only see scarr from home, but only the very peak has a dusting. Haven't been over Djouce direction, but on the commute home last night Djouce and surrounding had a good covering, but didn't look that bad once you're prepared. Roads were fine to Djouce car park anyway!

Is there and chance of snow over the midlands like about1-2 cm on low ground over the next 5 days? It's getting colder and there seems to be more precipitation but does that mean there will be snow?

Took a trip on the Passage East Car ferry and over to Hook Head this afternoon. Seas very rough there. Well worth a visit but wrap up well.

    Chilly!

When I closed down yesterday afternoon, I spent a while at the back, snow-worshipping... The mountains are awesome, snow topped. I am at the end of a mountain valley so surrounded on three sides by stark bareness.

Now snow draped. Not thick, but a glory.

Not been able to sort photos on this chromebook..

    Glad I have seen that..

Heaviest frost of the winter in Arklow this morning. Probably the heaviest in a few years in fact.

very severe frost last night here too. Looks like February is gonna have plenty of frosty spells with a good few cold spells from the north-west over the next few weeks.

Met Éireann coming on board regarding an easterly next weekend.
Friday and next weekend will be very cold as an easterly airflow become established over Ireland. Daytime temperatures will range from 3 to 6 degrees. Sharp or severe frost will develop at night. It will be mainly dry with sunny spells. However, showers will develop at times along east and south coasts, some possibly wintry.

Would love to know what models you are looking at...

GFS 00z op run is Bitter throughout almost the entire run with Easterlies being the dominant theme.

UKMO is stunning again with snow moving into the East of the country at day 6, possibly earlier.

ECM is a bit all over the place again but is an improvement on yesterday evenings run- I'm not so worried about this anymore.

Overall a pretty cold but mainly dry theme appearing for the next while- GFS possibly picking up another trend in the long run for removal of low heights to our North West as the PV relocates to Siberia. Given the state of the stratosphere at the moment, with a bit of luck, we could be looking at a very cold few weeks coming up.

Every time there's a cold outlier, it's definitely wrong, every time there's a mild outlier, it's definitely right :)

If it goes go away, oh well not unexpected, if it stays and we get an easterly, how bad? :)

lads is the rain band currently over the country the main event for today, not much rain from it here at the minute, and looks a good clearance behind it

Have you seen MT's forecast? Plenty of mention of wintry showers there.
