would it be fair to say the sound on the QC25 is better than QC35? Tried them both last week and thought the QC25 was considerably better.

Do you happen to know which firmware was on the Q35's the sound quality on the 1.29 firmware was awful and many of us have rolled back to previous firmware 1.06. Personally I haven't heard how the Q25's sound though, so you could indeed be right is what you are saying.

No just tried them on in Harvey Norman's so would imagine they were not upgraded. The noise cancelling was very impressive in such a noisy store but I didn't expect there to be so much sound difference although I think wired over wireless will always be better on comparable headphones. Would be interested to know if the QC35's sound is better when wired.

Has anyone reverted back to 1.06 and still experiencing a degredation of ANC?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,036 ✭✭✭BArra

Multiple threads on the bose forum, lots have been locked by bose mods so arent on the main page of complaints

Bose mods are saying their tech team advised no ANC changes but the amount of complaints say different, they advise to do a warranty exchange if the customer wants.

I updated twice recently to .9 (sound was bad on this fw) and .10, rolled back to 1.06, to me also there seems to have been a change to ANC.

Id say i will hold tight for the next firmware and check reports before i update

Saw the Bose Q35's in Dubai Airport for €279 yesterday.

Price well up now in Dixon's Airport for QC 35, up to €359 or so. No where near €309.

I left Dublin on the 12th of Feb and specifically asked how long this price (the lower one) would hold as I was carrying my Sennheiser Momentums with me and didn't want to take 2 pairs of phones with me for one trip. I was told it would be for several more moths at least. i'm still in the states so really annoyed to hear this! Flying home Sat then out again in a couple of weeks and had planned to pick them up then. :(

Having tried both on my last trip through Dublin Airport I'd actually prefer the Sony's. The ANC seemed better (to my great surprise) and I like the feature where you can cup the side to hear outside noise without taking them off.

Why all the love for the QC35s and no dedicated thread for the MD-1000x? Anyone want to try to change my mind? Or should I start a separate thread?

I've the Sony's also, ANC is great on them. Touch features are great, the cupping the ear function is one of the best features I've seen on a headphone, I use it all the time.. I use these in work a good bit so it's a really handy feature. Battery life on them is fantastic too

I haven't upgraded from 1.06, the ANC doesn't seem to be as good as it was previously. Not sure how that could be

Picked one up also. Agree with all above. Find call quality dodgy though.

They do but its actually cheaper to get them delivered to Parcel Motel up north and then have them deliver down here. Saves around 5eur incl. of the parcel motel fee. Theyre also dispatched much quicker.

Looks to be Sony week over at amazon.es, a wide range of their headphones reduced.

The MDR-1000X black are currently €325

QC 35 €359 in Dixon's travel Dublin Airport today. Cheaper on high street.

Anyone ever hear any of the cheaper models going on Amazon like the Cowin E7 or similar priced ANC headphones? They seem to be getting good reviews.

Would like a set of ANC headphones for work but the missus will kill me if I buy another set of expensive headphones like the QC35s...

I was in the same position, and got them from Amazon Spain for €297, in anticipation of a flight. Think I paid a tenner extra for 2 day delivery. No regrets other than the missus tried them out and then stole them.

Anyone issues with the anc on the latest firmware? Seems to be plenty of belly aching on the Bose forum.
    Not noticed anything myself

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,036 ✭✭✭BArra

Yeah there is, anc on latest firmware and the one previous has reduced anc substantially. Bose deny this but their forum says different

They agreed to take 20 sample qc35 from affected users in the us and uk to analyse them, however currently they say from their own internal testing nothing has changed

They are due to give an update on their findings of the 20 units from forum posters in the near future

I own a pair and i sadly updated the firmware, i feel they arent doing as good anc as they were out of the box

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,898 ✭✭✭KOR101

Bought them as a long shot to deal with a barking dog. It's like the dog no longer exists. It's a labrador with a very deep bark so maybe that suits the anc. Very surprised and happy about the outcome.

Quick question, these are Bluetooth, I have a pair before, NOT BOSE, after about 2 years the batteries wouldn't hold a charge.. is this a concern with these ? also can they be used wired ?

They can be used wired - although if the battery went completely, not sure if the ANC would work

I read a few of the reviews on Amazon and noticed some people saying that that the noise of people talking is not cancelled out, but transformed into a strange metallic noise, I guess this applies on buses /trains /planes. Also read one person saying that you cannot switch off the noise cancellation and, in a quiet area, this can mess with the inner ear and make you feel motion sick.....

Anyone any experience of either of these??

Thankfully I saw talk about the issues before doing any upgrading so still on the out of the box firmware and won't be updating until I see good feedback.

It doesn't totally block voice as that would be exceptionally difficult to do but they do reduce the "volume" of speech so it is at a much lower volume. If you are playing music at even low volume that's usually enough that you won't hear voice either much if at all. You can't turn off the noise cancellation if using bluetooth but after using them you won't want to even in a fairly quiet place, you can use them wired without noise cancellation though.

As for feeling sick, you will get over that after a few days. I felt weird after wearing them for the first 3 or 4 days (in any environment not just a quiet place) but after a few days I've never had a problem since. Even noise isolation ear buds did the same to me in the past so its an issue you may haev to face with any form of noise isolation/noise cancellation headphones.

Amazon Spain the cheapest place to buy a pair of these? Can't seem to find them cheaper anywhere and I really want a pair!

The Sony MDR-100ABNs are currently €199 on Amazon France:

    https://www.amazon.fr/Sony-MDR-100ABN-casque-sans-fil-R%C3%A9duction/dp/B01EANK8ZO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1490617257&sr=8-3&keywords=mdr-1000x&th=1

These are closer to €300 elsewhere and reviewed by many on Amazon UK saying they are better than their BOSE QC 25s.

Might help someone, I'm gonna prob pick up a pair.

Here's a comparison of them vs QC 35s and it is definitely a worthy competitor in this tech reviewer's opinion, JUST siding for the QC35s:

Yes although recently I updated the firmware and their is a buzzy clicky noise in the right side, if I move my head slightly it stops but then starts again.

I only noticed this when watching on my macbook, havnt noticed it when listening via iphone though but that's probably because I am out and about with Iphone and its more noisier than when I am inside and I aint noticing it as much!?

    Anyone notice this?

This morning the dog was barking. A tractor was cutting grass in front of the house. A JCB was digging a new track beyond the field in front of the house. NADA with the headphones on in the house.

I would love a giant headphone for my house! Im in a housing estate that believes strongly in dogs barking and house alarms going (sure why would you silence either)

    They sound great...

Just to be clear, you can hear the dog if you stand in the garden. I'm talking about inside the house. I also have good quality windows with no vents.

I wear mine all the time, in work, on the steet, trains, flights everything. They are just too good not to and damn sure I'm going to get the use out of them at the price! Have them 3 months and only wore another set of headphones once as I forgot the QCs at home before going to work.

So I picked up a pair of these(QC35) for 2 long haul flights 2 weeks ago, they are the business. Really really good. So I had read all the posts here and  ended up looking at the Sony, and when in the shop, I was introduced the Bang and Olufsen ones, nearly got these

    https://www.beoplay.com/products/beoplayh9

very little price difference as they were reduced, they are a thing of beauty, well engineered and design features are nice, what put me off was the round as opposed to oval shaped ear cups. and I hadn't time to do much review on them. But they are beautiful.

Anyways, the ones, I have I love and will continue to use, buy now or regret later.

I've been lucky enough to try both side by side in a real world environment. Yes the B&O are stylish and maybe a little more comfortable to wear but I still believe that the Bose trumps them in noise cancelling, not by a huge margin though. At the time I tried them the price difference was in the region of 100-150 quid but they do seem to have come down a bit recently.

My thoughts were if you valued style, the B&O were the way to go but if noise cancelling was your thing, then Bose. I have the Bose and I use them all the time at work, I love them..

Interestingly rtings.com has now reviewed the Sony MDR-1000X (along with the Bose QC35 and QC20 in the past), so now you can directly compare them all.

Generally they found the the Sony to have better active noise cancellation then the Bose QC35!! *

    * Though while the Sony have on average better sound cancellation, my own QC20's have significantly better sound cancellation at Bass frequencies, which includes the sound of airplane engine, so while the Sony's might be better in an office, the QC20's are much better for planes.

QC35 | QC20 | Sony (note higher number is better, except for the last row)
Overall Attenuation -24.47 dB -24.41 dB -26.47 dB
    Bass -16.22 dB -23.79 dB -17.78 dB
    Mid -22.18 dB -22.1 dB -23.98 dB
    Treble -36.92 dB -27.6 dB -38.14 dB
    Self-Noise 24.45 dB 18.23 dB 16.29 dB

However they also found the Bose QC35 to overall have better sound quality then the Sony.

All very interesting, these Sony are the first real competition to the Bose for noise cancellation and might be a good option for some people to consider. Great to see some competition in the market and new options.

Always good to hear personal experience, but you can already compare them on rtings.com:

    http://www.rtings.com/headphones/tools/compare

The backbeat have terrible noise cancellation, to be honest it is so bad they really shouldn't even be allowed to be called noise cancelling. Overall only -14.82 dB and at bass frequencies just a pathetic -2.3 dB would make them pretty much useless on a flight (QC25 are -25.82 dB and -19.14 dB).

BTW in case people don't know, even a difference of 1db is very significant, since it is a logarithmic scale
