Just when I thought we were over the cheating allegation story this happens:

Chief Constable Hamilton investigated by ombudsman - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-41666235

    Not exactly great PR...

Wonder if this will stall the recruitment process..?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 71 ✭✭ColourArcade

It stated in the article that the investigation will be going on for a year. To be honest, I wouldn't see it having an effect on the recruitment as it's not directly linked to it or the funding to it.

although, I could be incorrect on that assumption.

I think it won't really have an impact as the investigation could take a long time and the need for new officers at the bottom is more important. I would guess if anyone is suspended at the top end the most senior officer would fill their place. Either that or they might add a tick box to the application forms saying 'if you wish to apply for the position of assistant chief/deputy chief or chief constable please tick here' ;)

I read that too and I'm hoping that it won't, a year is a long time when we have already been waiting so long!

Agreed, but worth highlighting the story as if there is any truth to it there will be an impact to both current and future officers

Just want to help keep everyone down to earth here:
Of course there will be future campaigns, but you don't want to be in them, just like myself you want to be in THIS campaign! Remember that, and with enough hard work and dedication, you won't care about applying to future campaigns because you will get into this one. I have been waiting for a year and a half for this campaign and I, for one, will not let go of this opportunity without a struggle because just like being an officer, life isn't easy and you must persevere and try your hardest.
Not long to go now folks, let's keep our heads down and give this our best shot! I hope to see you folks at the A/C

All the best Lockie. If everything goes to plan, we could be AC and Training buddies.

  • Registered Users Posts: 271 ✭✭Lockie101

Definitely, we are all not without our worries and downfalls but turn them around and use them to your own advantage; the first step to overcoming your downfalls is to recognise and turn it into a strength. Bandedtorights, I hope to see you and the others on this board at the AC and beyond in GV so we can help and promote each other throughout the process

This is big for me, the pressure mounts the closer it gets to the opening of the process, we only got one shot in the IST and AC, gotta make it count or at least not go down without a fight

I have been looking at the practise IST questions that they provide. Has anyone any other good authentic examples? I failed the IST last time, it's really my only hurdle..

Don’t lose heart guys if you missed out by a bit you were close! I missed AC by a couple of marks a few times but scraped through eventually. Stick at it! I printed the fail email out and stuck it to the wall

That's hateful mate! Here just wondering but is that 55% or 55 percentile? Do you know how many applied last year as well?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭Banterbus28

55 flat never asked for percentile in case it stung more

Anyone who has applied before.. Cud u give me a general idea of what the IST and AC actually like and how hard it is?
If I'm lucky enough to get as far as AC it's the part that worries me the most.. Those role plays!
    Thanks in advance

    Hey guys
In preparation for the IST exam, I purchased an IST police textbook online. The verbal reasoning section of the book is all related to police scenarios. I'm just curious, in previous IST's, was the verbal resoning section based on just police officer scenarios or were they on general everyday situations.
    Many thanks

The true, false, can't tell questions can literally be based on anything. And the story could be completly stupid but it has to be acted as if its real.
E.g. if the passage says that unicorn numbers have dropped in recent years. For that question unicorns are real lol

Bit off topic here but does anybody know if the psni have left hand holsters for the Glock 17?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,620 ✭✭✭Banterbus28

The holsters can be issied left or right hand only however there are ambidextrous holsters that have belt attachments on either side.

Yes they have left handed holsters. Due to the holsters having a 2 part retention system they are not ambidextrous. So you would have to choose either left or right handed.

The drop leg ones are ambidextrous 😂😂😂

You don't get drop leg unless you're in a specialist role such as ARV, SOB or dogs.

Obviously but they are modular and can be placed on a belt. Some people buy there own stuff...

While we are on this topic I see the holsters they use on duty and they look awful big for off duty carry they would stick out like a sore thumb, do they supply discreet ones for off duty or would you just get your own?
