does anyone know a good website that I could browse the cost of home chargers for a Kangoo ZE. Its second hand so I dont qualify for ESB free fitting

Rolec, Chargemaster and Podpoint are examples I've seen from other posts but I'm not sure how to price ?

    thanks!

    Here's some:
    https://evonestop.co.uk/product-category/renault/renault-kangoo/
    http://carcharger.ie/product-category/home-chargers/

You might be able to get a 2nd hand one. One or two have come up for sale on the forum. Maybe put a post in there:

I take it your trip from Dublin Port to Castleblayney worked out OK without the charge card?!

Thanks .. Is there some reason that when the electrical connection type is the same that they are sometimes not compatible ?

For example this home portable charger is NOT COMPATIBLE with the Renault Fluence or Kangoo, even though its the same connection ....

    http://www.evcables.co.uk/89/Portable-Charger-Type-1

I'm just wondering if it can sometimes be true for the fitted house ones ?

( wrt catleblayney trip , had to borrow a tag, nothing in my wallet worked, how do tourists charge ? )

I think what you referenced there is a "granny cable". Its the really slow charge method that plugs into a 3pin plug. There might be compatibility issues with those.

The wall mounted EVSE's are not 3pin plug types and will charge any car. You just decide whether you buy a tethered or untethered one. Its a personal choice which one is best.

Did eCars not remote activate it for you without a card?
Tourists! They would need to be brave to hire an electric car as a tourist!

A 3 pin one doesnt require an electrician. You just plug it in anywhere and thats it but its much slower than a "proper" EVSE.

A wall mounted one will require an electrician to connect it to your house distribution board and run a cable from the wall to board. So you have to factor in the cost of an electrician for that.

I suppose. eCars dont give out cards to anyone that asks. You have to prove you have an EV first.

Kangoo ZE only charges at 3.3kw? There is no fast option? In that case a granny cable vs a home CP won't make a lot of difference, you're still looking at an overnight charge. The granny cable is worth having as you can charge anywhere if you're stuck.

Not alot of difference in charge time but a few hours nonetheless, but the more important thing is that the granny cable is a 3pin plug... thats not waterproof so you have to think about how you are going to use that all year round in the Irish weather. Can be done, but obviously the wall mounted EVSE is more suitable/safer/faster.

The granny cable is IP rated and perfectly safe for use in all normal conditions, including rain.

    Sure.
However, its still a 3pin plug. You have to plug it in somewhere. :)

If you have an outdoor IP rated socket that is within reach of your car then fine. If you have to use extension leads its more complicated.

I used a granny cable daily for 4 months myself so I know its possible. Im just pointing out the "proper" EVSE is more suited for daily long term usage.

Sure, but you only mentioned the granny cable, not an extension cable. We use the granny cable from the hall socket out the letterbox, which is at the bottom of the door. It's plenty long without using an extension cable.

But I would have thought any Type-2 EVSE (EVSE=granny) cable would do. The one you linked to above is a Type-1, which is for cars like the Leaf. Different connector on the car end.

Yeah sorry, just had a look here

    http://www.e-station-store.com/en/content/6-choose-evse-by-electric-car

Seems to be the same as the Leaf. Odd the cable above you mention doesn't work. Must be specific to that particular cable.

    no 3 pin there?

If you intend to do a lot of home charging , then even with a3.3kw , I'd install an wall mounted evse rather then use a granny cable.

The granny cable is typically 10A compared to 16A which is what 3.3kw is capable of

That's a more then 50% more chsrging ability.

No, but the point was that it's possibly the same cable the Leaf uses, certainly that site suggests that.

If you're charging over night it doesn't make much difference. The granny cable is infinitely more flexible as it can be used anywhere, and if the finances only allow one...

I have both cables, Ive used the Granny twice, in 8 months. Also if you arrive hime with a depleted battery , you may find you cant get a full charge in conventional 8-10 hours and certainly not all during night rate

House EVSE is better then granny any day
