Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Question about CAM cards with UPC (Virgin)

Hi, I've recently purchased a new Sony Smart (Android) TV and am trying to find out more about the CI slot. I understand that one needs a CAM card to take a subscription card. We have an UPC (Virgin) Cisco set top box and I like the idea of removing the STB from the equation (while keeping my UPC TV/internet subscription) and using a USB hard drive attached to the TV to record my programs to via the EPG that I can tune into.

Does anyone know whether this is feasible (and/or legal) with UPC?

UPC need you to use the STB and card that they provisioned.
One other option would be to use a horizon box that you could keep in another room if necessary, you'd need to run a HDMI to it, but the great thing is the remote control will work from anywhere in the house as the range in them is massive. Might or might not be an option.

I know on my lg smart TV I could control the functions of the Cisco hd DVR box with the lg remote. It has a virtual on-screen remote too. It did it through the HDMI I think. Wasn't as handy as using the original remote though.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I was just hoping to streamline things by taking the UPC box out of the equation as I am not impressed with the programme Guide on it and to use the tech built in to my new telly.

Would you not get the horizon box? It's not perfect but it's better than why you're using now.
