using phone credit for charity donations etc

    Does anyone know details of how this works, and is there a way to extract the credit to somewhere else, e.g. buy 'stuff' with it/credit to a bank/.... ?
    We'll assume I have some credit that the phone provider is going to delete after a certain period.

    Charity's tend to have a number you can text. Either with a donation amount they will deduct or there is a set charge for sending the SMS, or if you know anyone who has a PlayStation or xbox you can buy them game credit - hmvgramecredit.ie, they could reimburse you the charge in cash.
