Nope. Newstalk/Off the Ball do have Sundays nailed on again for next three years; 2 & 4:30pm Kick Offs for the season.

Means Saturdays OTB runs 1 to 5pm "only" (shorter; was 6) and Sundays instead're 1 to 7pm.

Bit shocked they didn't pitch for Saturdays to compliment Sunday coverage; during the Autumn-Winter it's very hard to fill Saturday afternoons without repeated inserts from during the week which will make listeners like me switch off.

Rte hadn't the foresight to pick it up for their Saturday Sport either; huge opportunity missed for all three stations.........and we the listeners're all the poorer.

Tried Liverpool v Norwich on BBC Radio 5 Live & on Tune In on laptop; geo blocked as I expected so I presume it's same on a phone/tablet.

Welcome to the new normal; roll on Sunday at least.

can you still get BBC 5 live the old fashioned way, on the radio? used to be 606 or 909 MW

They geoblock when they're broadcasting live games. There is a way around it but you can't discuss it here.

Aah, sorry, I understand. Also, I should have read the post properly - it says exactly that! Must try harder...

    Says who?

Open to correction but I don't see why that can't be discussed. It's common knowledge.

By all means PM it to me please; thanks. I need my "Footie Fix" on the wireless and am willing to invest in a Smartphone to do it; currently it's just laptop.

Shame PLL is gone. Had listened to it at some point for the last 20 odd years.

For me, it means I don't have to switch over to Nova anymore on a Saturday afternoon. It did seem popular though, but I guess the suits must have worked out music was more popular; or, music won't be quite as popular but they'll still save money by not having to pay for PLL.

The BBC world service on the bbc radio app that we can get here in Ireland and it sometimes has live radio commentary and it's not geo blocked. I'm listening to Bournemouth vs Sheffield United at the moment.

A lot of people will also be realising this weekend that BT sport is no longer available free with Eir broadband. There'll be a lot of un happy soccer fans about.

Absolute Madness, first they let Anton Savage go (not everyone’s cup of tea, but was a nice show and good replacement for Ray Darcy), then they got rid of Friday Night 80’s, now they let Premier League Live go, very strange way to run what was a great station, not a lot of destination shows aside from the legend that is Ian Dempsey and Matt Cooper.

Talk Sport from now on for Saturday for me, Villa match on now !!

Was pleasantly surprised to be able to listen to TalkSport & BBC Radio 5 Live today on both laptop & newly opened, two year old Smartphone (had to get Vodafone assistant to D/L the apps for me though......that's how much of a Tech Luddite I am!).

Back to FM tomorrow though; Newstalk from 2 & 4:30pm til 7 with Sunday Double Headers for next 3 years.

As for Today FM, unless I'm flicking between RTE Drivetime, the Hard Shoulder on Newstalk & it, I rarely exclusively listen to the Last Word; indeed @ 5:30pm I switch back to a local drivetime talk/discussion/current affairs show in Carlow-Kilkenny til 7.

Today FM're going way of 2FM when Gerry Ryan died; I know it was a shock but in general terms they'd no one lined up for the 9am-12 Noon slot if he ever did the mad thing of retiring or resigning; I grew out of the Golden Hour & in any case they chopped & changed Larry Gogan around from his 12 to 3pm slot; shortened it to begin with (I think!) and then changed his day or days to weekend.

Today FM were my go to when D'Arcy was on from 9-12 Noon in the 00s; they should've thrown money at him to keep him; Anton Savage was a very able replacement mind & time would, I think, have helped him steady the ship; I particularly liked what he did with the coverage of the glamping site in Co. Sligo; unreal publicity for it & it sounded like great craic; something like what D'Arcy did for the Us & Us 2 books & for Cat Laughs O/B on the Saturday morning.

But nope, both stations've chopped and changed; whatever cause I have to flick to the Last Word during the week I've no reason now to switch on at the weekends.

TF Newstalk didn't lost the rights to Sunday footie at least; at pains of repeating myself I'm a bit shocked they didn't pick up where Today FM left off given they're both part of Communicorp; it's the perfect fit; their Saturday afternoon show's now only 1 or 2pm til 5; Sunday's 1 or 2 til 7 on the other hand; think PL games're down for 4:30 kick offs.

Would agree, Darcy leaving was actually the start of this mess, I remember the morning when Ian Dempsey announced the news, they had been trailing a big live outside broadcast for weeks, then suddenly gone and to RTÉ of all places ,listened to the Irishman Abroad podcast feat Ray Darcy during the week and enjoyed listening to him again, (don’t listen to R1 yet, going to try it when I am 60 but not before) although would not agree with him on a lot of things, he did make great radio on Today FM as above with US and Cat Laughs shows were great, and the mention of US remind me of the time they would not go off air during the first US and Philip Cawley was not allowed in to broadcast, it was just different radio, but in a good way.

Sorry for rambling, cannot believe still no Premier League on a Saturday, actually thought they had technical issues was the reason for the first 30 minutes, then realized no mention of any issues. Sorry Today FM, now off the ball with regards to Saturday football coverage.

Jesus, this Baz guy is almost unlistenable. He doesn't seem to have much of an idea of what he's doing. He sounds confused at all times. Didn't he work full time for 2FM before?

The way he ends a phone call is starting to drive me nuts and also just the way he pronounces the word 'bye'.

Boy, boy, boy, ok, boy, boy......boy.

Ed Hayes just on with matt Cooper. Would love if he was on with cal every Tuesday

So what if there is no football on today fm now. You know you can just listen to 5live or talksport people? I cud never understand how they covered the PL on sat and sundays anyway. Pity our own league dosent get a bit more coverage.

He used to be great every Sunday when he was on with Sam Smyth before he was sacked.

Caught the first of Ed's National Anthems last night. Loved it. Sure, a few more mainstream/chart acts than on Songs of Praise, but that was always going to happen. Still a bit more rock/indie compared to when he stood in for Louise, I think. A good balance. Will be on my go-to list, definitely!

Not if it's geo blocked you can't; that was where Today FM came into its own.

Their coverage was unreal; brilliant presenters, commentators, co-commentators etc.

Most people that are into football follow a Premiership team. No point broadcasting a league of Ireland game if the premier league live listeners had no interest in it

Is the act where he pretends he doesn't know what's going on a gimmick or reality, either way it's horrendous stuff.

i'd say its a bit of both, these days anyone can get a job on radio. talent is just an after thought. talent as in talent as a radio presenter.
