It must have been Songs of Praise I was used to hearing, that's why I didn't hear any mainstream stuff.

He really has good taste in music. A younger version of JC.

    Yup, this exactly. Wonderfully eclectic.

Dermot being praised for his speech on "why Ireland is a racist country based on texts received".
That's a bit wide of the mark, surely?
He conceded the majority was positive but sure Ireland is a country with racists rather than a racist country?

On the Classic 9 at 11, they played the radio unfriendly version of Insane in the Brain.

I wonder will all the Woke Today FM call for the banning of the Classic 9 at 11 or sacking of the presenter after this disgrace.

I’m more surprised to hear that’s one of the songs they selected to play at that time instead of Boyzone or B*witched or the usual shoyte they play.

Can’t wait to hear Jennifer Gannon is now boycotting Today FM now in protest.

The youth of today need exposure to Cypress Hill

They played the explicit version of ol dirty bastards, baby I got your money recently. Saturday morning. It was great hearing it, but you couldn’t pick a more explicit song, but poor Pamela Joyce was in near shock. I’d say there was some slap on the wrist.

Hey she's loading up what's in the system. Its the musical director i'd be blaming.

In the world of rap, certainly from the period 1988-2003 you could, but I take your point.

That's 2 F ups in a few days, surly Jennifer Gannon will have no choice but to boycott Today FM now. She wouldn't want to be accused of being a hypocrite now would she, working for a radio station that plays lyrics which are offensive and demeaning to women and people of colour?

Who is the music director at Today FM? Whoever it is seems to be genuinely terrible.

    Is it John Cadell?

Today FM is pure filth lately... A stand-in presenter (can't remember who it was) read out a request from Michael Hunt the other week. And apparently Mairéad Ronan was teabagging all day yesterday... :D

That song is incredibly unpleasant to listen to, particularly the vocals. I don't know how anyone could hear it everyday.

It was 20 years ago today that Today Fm announced that Ray Darcy was to take over the midmorning show from the first Monday of September. His show defiend Celtic tiger culture outside the pale.

In its heyday, it was the best show on Irish radio. Innovative, quirky, informative, but most of all, fun. Even had good music, although Ray was fond of playing the same tunes over and over..

Fantastic show for the first few years!! Say what you want about it towards the end but when it started it was just brilliant

At least the repetitive nature here was down to personal taste more then the PC choosing songs that will be spat out again in a few hours. Songs like Fiest - Inside & Out are synonymous with this era for me as an apprentice on sites

Amazing how someone's personality can change so much.

Then again, he is 20 yrs older (acts 50yrs older).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 82 ✭✭Damian F

When you think about it, Darcy was only 35/36 when he started on Today Fm so the same age the likes of Eoghan McDermott and Feargal Darcy are today.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 82 ✭✭Damian F

I was never a fan of Darcy's Todayfm show even in the early days, actually I was disappointed at the time to lose the classic 9 on weekday mornings but I totally agree that it was a very Innovative show in the early days, probably the first radio show in Ireland or the UK to fully utilize text messages.
