JNLR surveys aren't done by phone. It's face to face, so they call to your door. You haven't been JNLR-ed.

As I mentioned, it was several years ago. At least 5. It was done by phone then. Practice (and company) may well have changed since.

Yeah, and if you check back you'll see I've criticised presenters, too.

The difference? I'd hope if I'm criticising someone it's on grounds a bit stronger than "They're bad" (which is literally the criticism labelled at Ferg D'arcy today) or sexist ****e - as in today's "was she hormonal?"

To quote someone better at words than me:

You should give it a try, PhoneMain...

I never mentioned anything about Maireads sex or her hormones. You made the connection about criticising someone just because they're a woman, hence woke folk comment. I dont like MAireads show because.......she's ****e. I find Dempsey boring, I like Dermot and Dave and I generally like Matt when hes not too......woke! I dont like Fergals because I think he talks rubbish. I liked Muireann when she was allowed do her own thing, I like Pamela and Paula. I dont mind Alison Curtis but her show wouldnt to be my taste.

But yeah, fire ahead TaurenDruid and accuse me of sexism so it makes you feel superior to every else and you can project your values. Plenty of other people have mentioned they dont like Mairead, I dont know why you single me out for criticism. I treat everyone I meet with respect and dont judge someone but their backgrounds, their nationality, their sexuality, their sex, only with how they interact with me.

Didn't accuse you of sexism. That was directed at whoever posted the illiterate rant about Mairéad being hormonal (and whose criticism of Feargal literally amounted to "He's bad.") I mean - that pretty much is a perfect example of sexism.

The Neil Gaiman quote was directed - in part - at you, because dismissing someone's views just because you deem them to be "woke" is - well, treating someone with a lack of respect, frankly.

It wasn't and it hasn't. JNLRs have never been done by phone.

Not since April 2017, anyway. But it's well more than 4 years ago since I got the call. I wonder who it was phoned the landline, so? All they wanted to ask about was radio listening the previous day and the previous weekend.

Read back. I've not changed anything I said. I got a call on my landline some years ago, asking about my radio listening habits. I assumed it was JNLR, and still do. I've not been "caught out" because they now do face-to-face interviews and someone says they always did...

You certainly haven't changed anything you've said. You're still adamant you were JNLR-ed and have used your experience of being JNLR-ed on a landline to question the legitimacy of it.

"Someone says" - Someone who has worked closely with JNLR for 20+ years.

P.S. Sometimes individual radio stations may employ research companies to carry out research for their own purposes.

Wtf? What I said about the JNLRs is right there:
Agreed, the JNLRs are dark arts. I understand there was talk of them incorporating quantifiable data - streams, presumably from the likes of TuneIn and the like - but that got shot down? No idea why.

I've been phoned once, ever, by whichever company does the JNLR survey, and it was on the landline. I don't even know if our landline is still connected - the only person who used to phone it regularly was the mother in law, and she's dead several years. If they still don't phone people on mobile phones, their demographic is totally skewed.

If they're doing face-to-face interviews, then great (covid aside, obviously). I really don't get why they wouldn't use streaming data, which presumably is going to be highly accurate. Having questions about the methods their using isn't "questioning their legitimacy."
P.S. Sometimes individual radio stations may employ research companies to carry out research for their own purposes.

So that's what I may have been phoned for, if it wasn't the JNLRs. Honestly? I've no idea. As I said - it was some years ago. /shrug

    EDIT TO ADD:

TL;dr: I got a phone call once asking me what I'd been listening to on the radio. I thought it was the JNLR survey. It probably wasn't.

Cool. You could have said that the first time it was pointed out JNLRs have never been done by phone rather than doubling down. Sometimes it's good to listen to other poster's points too. I don't disagree with the rest of your points re: JNLR and modernising it.

Roe McDermott who reviews the trending topics of the week on Today FM seems to find every opportunity to bash "white men" for some reason. Shoehorns the group into every story and blames them for well....just about everything. Seems a rather lazy, discriminatory and hateful analysis if you ask me but she is never called on it.

Yes i couldn't agree more. Matt didn't challenge her at all. No evidence to the rubbish she was spouting.

She stated that the Gamestop/Reddit "thing" was all done anonymous white middle aged men online. Anyone see a problem with that statement.

Fairly poor piece about a possible Amazon.ie on The Last Word. Mat banging on about Amazon being bad for the Irish high street as if they're a new phenomenon while his contributers rightly state that the shops here have to up their online game.

I use it to listen to the station when I'm in work - it's ok for that but interrupts at completely random times with an advert - in the middle of a song, in the middle of the news, in the middle of another advert...

I use it occasionally when out walking, too - Block Rockin' Beats is great for keeping the pace up. Haven't investigated too much beyond that as I'd tend to use Spotify more when out.

Used to love the app when out walking, but recently it has stopped playing a lot of the channels on it.

I'd say only a handful working now. Seems to be the actual radio stations i.e. TodayFM, Newstalk and 98FM, all the specialist channels won't work for me any more.

Tried uninstalling and downloading again, still same.

They've been getting their money's worth out of Jessica Maciel lately.
Did early breakfast on Thursday and Friday morning. Back on air 15 hours later for Friday night anthems and then back on air 11 hours after that for her late morning/afternoon show on Saturday morning.

That sounds like it might be a hearing issue. Some are quite distinctive/unique.

I could not tell them apart. hearing is fine btw

They all sound the same largely because station policy dictates it. Doesn’t really matter who’s at the controls. At any point in the daytime schedule it all sounds the same. I heard one of the female presenters filling in for Ed Smith during the week and she was ok. You’d definitely miss Ed’s natural style but the filler in was ok. Largely because on Ed’s time slot there’s obviously much more freedom with the playlist and a lot less forced “banter”.

That’s Claire Beck...I think she’s very good when she’s doing her own thing.

Is Bernard O Shea's weekly segment on the Dermot and Dave show a way of getting listeners used to him for his own slot? No idea where he would be best suited, can't see Ian Dempsey leaving anytime soon and its hard to know would he suit the lunchtime show. Maybe it is nothing more than a weekly segment...

Hope not, Mairead Ronan is bad enough. If they want comedy at lunchtime, they should move D&D back

The nightmare just entered my mind that they pair Bernard with Mairead.

    Scarily accurate.

They've gotten months out of the Miley Cyrus/Ariana Grande/Little Mix shuffle. Every day! And throw in some Rihanna there to mix it up a little bit 😂
