The girl whos on before Dempsey would make a good replacement for Muireann. Is it Paula MC ?

you are talking about paula macsweeney

Ya that's her. Think she'd do a better job of it than Muireann. Can't believe she's stuck on a 5am slot and some of the dross they have on during morning /daytime

Ray Foley was a missed opportunity for 2FM and the same with Dermot and Dave. The only reason they went the other way is because Tony Fenton (RIP) very sadly had to step down because of how poorly he was (I think they probably knew he wasn't going to recover), so they were brought over to fill a gap in the schedule. But, y'know, it worked out for them!

meh, i used to listen to Today FM when D&D were on in the mid morning slot.. switched the dial as soon as they went on mornings.... too noisey in the mornings imo... Ray D was ok... but Anton Savage was the best... a real pro.. good music and chat.. now all we have is poor music and 'bantz'... meh and unfortunately we're now stuck on talk radio type programmes the whole day..... wouldnt dare even go near 2fm "the sound of the nation" jeez

She's painful when she's covering the other shows, goes on about "aido" and only skills seem to be celeb nonsense.....she makes Louise Duffy look like Terry Wogan

Anyone hear the piece about the 58yr old boss who is now on the Sex Offenders Register because he awkwardly kissed an employee on the cheek/head several times?

Even Matt and the girl in the piece more or less laughed it off, but some numbskull fella with them got on his high horse and started saying he deserved it as he invaded her personal space etc.

Give me strength. Why is everyone so bloody serious these days?

Once upon a time I would have disagreed with you. However now I 100% agree! As bad as Paula is she is way better than Muireann. At least she’s easy to listen to whereas Muireann is dire. She’s actually got so much worse over the last few months. She’s constantly shouting and being so over the top about the most ridiculous things it beggars believe. And as for the things she gets people to ring in about it’s just incredible. I honestly don’t know how she thinks of the subjects- they are just so banal.

    Not a hope, she’s dire!

Are there no female presenters out there who don't go over the top about everything??

    introduce a song, play it
play 2 songs, tell the listeners what songs they were
tell listeners what time it is, maybe ask for some suggestions for songs.
use the KISS formula. keep it simple stupid

I heard half of that and when I heard the woman I was expecting her and cooper to go full Louise o Neill and then the fella with a odd rant

I thought Allison Curtis (despite her having the annoying nasally , Janice from friends accent) was good at the music ... and then she ventured into the topic of kids and covered Whrn Anton left and exposed her as dull and boring

It was the opposite....the fella was the most PC,
"look at me I'm not controversial", defend the rights of women I've heard in a long time.

Alison Curtis gives me serious serious ire. I don’t like to use the word hate but sorry I hate hate hate. Turned on the radio in the car yesterday morning literally within 5 seconds she was on about kids.

she made the transition from cool indie music head to mammy presenter fairly quickly
her show is like the 'poporama' (childrens radio show sat mornings on 2FM early - mid 80s) of today .

Yeah she’s really really dreadful. What’s the opposite of a “voice for radio”? Whatever it is, she’s it. The whole mammy / kids shtick combined with the Canadian drawl is really very irritating.

That said, what do I know. It seems to me she kinda fell into this formula and apparently some people out there like it as I believe her ratings are strong...

Is Hector finished on Today FM

There was a female DJ on yesterday and she was talking about next week's show

Wouldn't surprise me, he has to drive all the way from Galway to Dublin to do the show!

    Sure that's only a 2 hour drive

He chooses to drive all the way from Galway, and gets handsomely compensated for it I'm sure.

I think I’m finished with the Last Word.

Last week Matt had some clown on talking about “manterrupting”, whatever the hell that is.

Do real people actually talk about this sh!t?!?

Yes he finished on Sunday. Always found him interesting to listen to. Best of luck to him, he seemed to have quite a big listenership

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,546 ✭✭✭paddylonglegs

Was listening a bit on Sunday, the difference in range of music is astounding. The playlist is so confined during the week. And each of those songs sound quite similar: female vocalist - electronic beat - and folky guitar melody. I sound so old, but most of the artists seem to be unknowns that come and go. Maybe I’m wrong....

No problems with the female vocalists btw, there’s just a lot of it.

For some reason, every time Muireann O'Connell starts talking, this pops into my head...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,464 ✭✭✭Ultimate Seduction

Her story about the rugby match earlier was a new low. It's like listening to two teenage girls gossiping. Anyone know what her ratings are like yet? Surley she will be moved on quickish

Doubt it. Just Cheltenham week I'd say.

.....or a case of having more relevant issues to talk about (also considering Matt's age by your criterion he is too old to be covering it anyway)

TLW has really gone to the dogs over the last 18 months.

Its a hard listen now. And as a result I rarely make the effort any more. And in the past I never would have missed it.
