My son has been awarded SUSI Maintenance grant , hasnt been paid yet , hoping to get it this month.
A local pub has told him they might have a few weekend shifts coming up but does anyone know if this will affect his grant ?

It may or may not effect the maintenance grant/fees grant but it is counted as reckonable income for next application year. It does not effect the grant that has already been awarded.

Next years application only takes into account what he earns in 2016, which can't be that much at this stage. So should not make a difference.

But what he earns in 2017 will be taken into account for his 2018 application and it may take him to another level of threshold for the grant or he may not qualify if he earns too much.

He will get the holiday pay allowances over the school term holiday periods but tell him to keep all his payslips as evidence for the year prior to his latest application. This will reduce the overall reckonable income.

If he leaves or loses his job in any given year, his income maybe disregarded once evidence of the job loss has been provided or obtained by SUSI.
