Here is the long and short of it, There is a vast amount of tech support roles out there. You are going to need assistance writing your CV and compiling an appropriate job list for you

Go to the likes of CPL or Sigma Recruitment who specialise in this area and get some assistance, this is their bread and butter.

Finally dont make more excuses stop pining for the past. Look forward move on move up and improve.

This problem is short lived and can be fixed with the right help.

I disagree that you're too late for a graduate role. Try the likes of Glanbia or Johnson & Johnson or Kerry group. They usually start hiring now for May or June. I knew 2 30 year olds on those programs, 1 was almost 4 years out of uni and the other had just graduated with a cert having made a move from a completely different career.

I think the point about feeling sorry for yourself a little is accurate. Nothing will change unless you change it, and a chance of attitude would be a good start.

CV is perfect and is made by CV company never had a issue with getting work for it and have not been told from the likes of CPL to change things.

I know not to look to the past i am looking to future and have been applying for jobs.

Going to have a look now and see what i can apply to.

ITs hard to change it once you been fired for been born with something you wish you dont have every single day.

Heres an idea.... have you tried applying to work directly for SAP? They're not the most vocal employer out there but they've actually a huge workforce between Dublin and Galway (approaching 2000 people I believe) and have recently taken on more office space in Citywest. Any company that size is almost guaranteed to be hiring on a constant or near constant basis.

They have a program where they hire people who are on the autistic spectrum, so I doubt they'd not be able to look past dyslexia if a person has potential. Often times its the really big companies who have the best diversity policies and can look past a person having a deficit in one area if they're otherwise a talented individual.

Yes, but here's a simple mental change, stop saying you were fired! Your role was made redundant, yes despite your good work, and the company chose to not allow you to transfer internally to a new team. (At least that's what I think happened.) From what you've said, they didn't let anyone else transfer either!

I live and own a house at the other end of the country and have a dog and a girlfriend cant just tell them to move like that .....

I have said we should move to london countless times and she wont. This is the only place i would move to.

    But worth applying anyway.

Everyone else expect me was kept on ..... Yah i wasint fired ..... They said i was fired because of my deslexa. I took me near 3 months to get a P45 from them and i am owed near 4k from them with OVer time and hoildays and thats part of my legal case.

OP, in the nicest possible way, i wonder are you on the autistic spectrum?

I have 2 siblings with Aspergers and they find change hard. They also loop a lot. You sound to me as if you are looping. Do you have a parent or sibling who understands you and could problem solve with you and break the looping?

Also, i'm an editor. Your writing skills are the equivalent of someone whose second language is English. You need to get this problem sorted. Again maybe a friend or family member can help you sort this.

I wish you all the best,
    T.

i wont to use my 4 years of study to the fullest i can otherwise i would have wasted 4 years of my life studying.

Why do you think it would be wasted study? You still have the qualification. You still have the results on your CV to show that you are capable of sticking with and completing a 4 year course with very high results. You do need to change your attitude. Nobody owes you a job! Just because you have a good degree doesn't mean you are entitled to your dream job. Do you know how many other people in the country graduated with excellent degrees in the last few years? Who also are in jobs they'd prefer not to be. These people are in jobs that are a stop gap. A filler to pay the bills and keep their CV current. You are newly graduated. It can take years to progress to your ideal position.

You do seem to have a pitying attitude and it is difficult to make out your posts, and not because of spelling or grammar. But in your first post you say
a new manager came in and let go the team as he was not happy with us.

Then you say you were fired for having dyslexia. Then you say you were the only one let go.

You finish work at 8:30. That's only the start of the evening. If anyone is going out for a bite to eat, a few quiet drinks, the cinema, they are going out around that time. Cinemas have films starting after 9pm all the time. Restaurants are open until 10:30-11 mostly.

I doubt all your friends are at home in bed before 9pm.

This is a bump in the road. You are what, 22, 23 years old? You have roughly 45 years of working life ahead of you. That is plenty of time to find your dream job, and progress to where you'd like to be. Very very VERY few people walk out of college into full time permanent dream positions.

I know no one owes me a job i am just trying the hardiest to get my dream job as i know rome was-int built in a day. At this stage i would not consider myself a new grad anymore i am out of college nearly 2 years. I know it can take years to work up the ladder but i rather be on a ladder that i know i can make something of myself then work in a call center for my life. I love dealing with people as i will chat away to you none stop. I done help desk and i loved talking to people and fixing things while i talked them i dont have anyone to turn to now for a chat.

Its a legal case i wont get into it anymore as stuff was said in that meeting by HR and Management towards me and i cant let more of it out.

I used to work them hours but i was in a office with people i didnt mind them then and we used to allways do stuff after now i dont have that and i have no one to go for drinks with from work.

28 ha. I know that it takes years to get what i wont i know what i wont but dont know how to start working on getting it that is the issue.

i know i can make something of myself then work in a call center for my life.

But you're not going to work in a call centre for your life. You're working there temporarily until you find something else you'd prefer. You're already looking at a different role in the company so the likelihood of you working in a call centre for the next 40 years are fairly slim.

I get that you're angry. But a lot of your anger is unnecessary. Go out in the evenings. Meet people. Use your mornings to search for jobs. Meet recruitment agencies etc. You can be angry and let it consume you, or you can work with the hand you were given and use it to make things better for yourself.

OP, have you ever heard of the National Learning Network?

They're a very specialist agency which helps people who have difficulty with getting work due to disability or injury. They work with all sorts of other people, aiming for all sorts of jobs.

I have a feeling that their kind of specialist skills might be helpful in getting past the barriers you have.

To be honest I think loosing the SAP job was a blessing. SAP is a huge company but the actual job market in Ireland is non existent outside of SAP. I personally know several people who left there in recent years whom focused on the SAP technical side and had to start at the bottom again and several whom returned to SAP after some years due to lack of opportunities to progress up in the other companies.

I know that myself and i am hoping that it can be fixed as in the morning i am going to offer myself to work in another dept for free to get exp in something that i wont to do. As that's what i have been thinking with my girlfriend.

I do know what i need to relax a lot more.

No i have not do they work with people with deslexa ?. As i will get in touch with them.

    Thanks for the advice :)

Op I don't know where your based but the last showing in the cork cinemas tend to be around half nine ten o clock.

Also maybe have a chat with your mates, tell them your struggling and would like to see them more I'm sure they would make the effort , same for family....

As for the dxylexia it sucks but there are ways to manage it, speak to your specialist about extra support.

I don't have dyslexia but I do have a chronic illness sometimes the harsh truth is you have to pull yourself up by the bootstraps and keep on trucking.

You can of course apply for grad jobs and keep applying for other roles, can you go back to your old job?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,379 ✭✭✭newacc2015

OP one option is keep applying for jobs and if anyone asks about the two month gap say you were backpacking. I know its not ideal to lie, but you basically got lied about what the role you would be in now.

I cant imagine you having an issue getting a job having SAP in Dublin. But it doesnt sound like you live there

Have you got a good up to date Linkedin. If you are as good as you say you are, you might get head hunted

Thats what i had to do with my desleixa is my post before i was put down for years by teachers over it and was told a good few times i am stupid and i dont have the brains for college. I ended up with a B3 in higher LV English thanks to a Tape Recorder in the leaving cert.

I have a up to date Linkedin and its basically my CV in a digital copy.

OP, i have to say your not really addressing my post, you quoted it but i was talking about the cinema and your friends and going back to  your old job and you talked about your teachers being a bit **** and putting you down,

    so again,

can you talk to your friends? tell them your struggling? talk to your family ask them to make time for you,

can you go back to your old job?  its unclear if you were made redundant, fired, or resigned?

But in other news i spoke to my manager and said there looking into me moving roles as i offered to do it for free to get exp. They will be in touch next week about it.

The OP has told us they are taking legal action against the old company . There is no way in hell that the old company would rehire in that situation.

i thought that was a different company?
he said in one post he was fired, another the team was made redundant and then that he asked to move before he was fired.
im confused, but yes in general suing a company would limit your options to return :ermm:

Maybe you are genuine...I don't know. I do know however that spellcheck is pretty good at spelling words correctly (even americanised versions) and would be surprised if you couldn't get by on that. You can even personalise it to autocorrect common mistakes you make (admittedly you would probably need somebody elses eyes to set up the autocorrect initially).
Spell check checks spelling. Not always grammar.

If I understand the OP, they won't see the difference between know/knew or crew/crow/craw. Spell check will say that the word is correct, and if enough words are used wrongly, others may not understand.
I live and own a house at the other end of the country and have a dog and a girlfriend cant just tell them to move like that .....
If you won't move, you may be stuck with work-at-home jobs for the short term, until January at least.
