No, I think Shag is talking about his own writing.

Must actually start writing stuff down for my current roster - get the wheels in motion!

Yeah I was talking about myself but I'd say many would agree.

I find say writing a beat down it's fairly black and white. So easy to paint a clear picture. Comedy stuff-wise the set pieces are straight forward but for it to be truly funny the ideas really need that extra bit of seasoning if you know what I mean?

I placed an idea of partnering Santino with Val Venis as a trainee pornstar last year. I felt like I could have produced something great but it fell really short. It was a serious effort that required thorough writing.

I found it hard to write for Ben Stiller and Tyler Breeze last year, but I think I got the right balance in the end.

Yeah I totally agree that writing comedic segments is much more difficult. The beat downs and promos that go along with them are (mostly) straight forward - but writing the comedy moments that you might find funny may fall completely flat with others reading it. Instead of full on segments, I tend to throw in a few one liners here and there, a) because it suits my roster and b) because of exactly what you said above.

Actually that was something I was going to reference, the final show before the PPV I think it was where you had Breeze running around trying to find Zoolander was a good example of getting it right. If it's done right (like Joe's example) it can make a feud that seems mundane really interesting and it's something I personally would find hard to do.

Hmmm.. Thanks for that lads.. May have to reconsider that segment in my shows so!

It took me ages to plan that, after I drafted them I was like WTF do I do with these guys now? I literally drew a blank for ages, if it wasnt for my misses with some top ideas (she actually gave me the idea of drafting Stiller) Id be lost

Yeah comedy isn't the easiest but I think if it's obvious what your going for like with Stiller & Breeze then it should translate without too many problems so I think a dance off like you've said should be fine.

I'm trying to decide on a few things now like should it be IRS or Mike Rotunda - Dan Spivey or Waylon Mercy as the preview show I did up shows I have a number of factions now so these little tweaks could be important. PS feedback is always appreciated, it mostly is not a show but has one angle on it which will help to kick off my shows for this year.

I think it's up to what you what to do though. If you feel comfortable writing that way then don't let me rambling on here stop you! I was just saying I prefer to stay away from it because I find it difficult.

I have a segment in my first show that was giving me a lot of trouble for this exact reason. It could go down horribly but I'm willing to take the risk as it furthers things down the road I'm taking for my shows.

With Tarver drafted, I've realised I can put up my preview show. I have a few little references regarding certain guys signing from other companies (Edge, for example coming from Monday Night Grappling last year). Nothing derogatory just a quick mention of where they've been. If anyone doesn't want me to mention or reference their company let me know, don't want to go upsetting anyone!

I think I'm missing Mistico II from there

Sorry Hulkie I'll update that shortly.

Nikita Koloff went very late in my book, a solid upper mid carder if booked right. Fantastic value in round 14.

Have a list of undrafted picks, and man theres a few names that should be gone by now.

Just quickly read through it there and
It was actually very similar to my own preview show just before it with unhappy management, wrestlers leaving, a takeover, the audience being shocked and then a run down of the new roster including a big heel faction. That is kinda to be expected though in a preview post especially one where you have to replace much of your roster. That said it is good how you have continuity with Hassan etc

I liked it though because it made me want to see what you do next which is exactly what the preview show is supposed to do. Who doesn't want to see what Trump will do for example and your first show is a PPV so should be decent. Obviously the BWA was one of them (which I liked) but I thought mentioning where some stars went / came from such as Edge and MNG bigged up your own promotion in much the same way it'd be a coup for WWF to steal a guy from WCW but not neccesarily from some unknown brand... and I will probably mention the bit about Andre on my show.

    CWA Fallout 2:
Really enjoyed the opening segment with Cornette stamping his authority on the CWA. Glad to see that the tournament for your main title is underway and kudos on the brackets they look really good.

Was a little surprised with the attack on Bray in the second match but the subsequent trade makes everything clearer.

As you've said yourself, you enjoy writing the promo aspect of your fed and this really shows in the Piper's Pit segment. You capture Piper really well and I loved Lashley breaking the fourth wall and referencing the perceived racism in the draft. His dominant victory over Bob Orton was to be expected as he's been built really strong by you so far.

The ending was well written too. I expected a Godfather jump to join the Wyatts but D'Lo going to was a surprise and I wonder where this leaves the Nation now.

    BWA Preview:
It was only after you mentioned the similarities between our previews that I noticed them. I suppose that's the case with preview shows as you said. Ted DiBiase as the new owner is awesome. He was the standout MVP of last year's draft and looks to be a major character going forward this year again.

The major question is what faction will he join? All in all a great set up to what I'm sure will be more great shows. With so many avenues to go down it really will be fun to watch it unfold.

    Regards ending of my show
I wanted to make it ambiguous to whom Bray was referring to was it Godwinns, Dlo & Godfather or just Dlo or Godfather all that is still to be revealed (Just cause Godwinns lost does not mean they will not join family

Happy with Noelle, as Joe can attest I had enquired about her eligibility a while back and while I had abandoned that plan I'm confident she can still be quite useful. Hopefully get a chance tonight or tomorrow to read what's been posted but I think I need to get cracking on my own preview show.

I am hoping to have my preview show up tomorrow night. Although I may have one more trade to make....

Shows being submitted thick and fast, and its crazy how fast this years drafting has gone. It makes me wonder how many shows we might see posted to with people so eager to get going.

To put it in perspective, last year the draft finished at round 15, which ended on March 15th. Its already into round 14 and its not even Valentines day yet. Amazing.

Glad to get Manu in, as unlikely as it sounds! I have a plan for him for last round or 3 and glad to get it over the line. Had penciled him for my pick for the previous round, but then when the stip was revealed, took the chance that he might land with me for free! And then when I went digging for others, was happy to come across Hacksaw!

Happy with how my roster is coming along, and look forward to writing shows, even though I'm not the most creative!!

    PM sent to next draftee.

With the next round being an average pick round, the next round order will not be known until after round 14 ends (well pick 19 for sure)

As it stands the round average order from the last 4 rounds since looks like this (but more names will be added as the round moves forward)

    Daithi1975 - 14.25
    Necrominus - 10.75
    DM_7 - 10.25
    Beakerjoe - 9:5
    thebostoncrab - 8.5
    Campo - 7.5
    JP Liz - 7.00
    Bounty Hunter - 6.0

It's been very quick this year. I still need to get round to writing although I feel like I know most of my ideas when I do start to write.

P.S on the subject of storyline ideas I just listened to Jim Cornette discussing one that was submitted to him by a fan via email and I was in tears of laughter:

While it looks like I might get a high pick next round (so far) I'll literally eat my hat if anyone drafts my next pick!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,753 ✭✭✭✭beakerjoe

I feel as its been much quicker than last year, I may have to lengthen the time between the end of drafting and show submission end date. I usually 1 to 3 shows written before the draft ends around the start of March, this year its already near its climax and showing no signs of slowing down and Im not finished my preview show

Over the moon. I wanted ReDragon since the start of the game, and I also wanted Adam Cole. I banked on the fact that Bobby Fish most likely would never get drafted by himself, but knew ReDragon would have been snapped up early and so would Adam Cole. So drafted Future Shock early and kept by fingers crossed on the Bobby Fish theory. Glad it worked!

Just putting a few tweaks to it, and might have it up tonight or tomorrow evening.
