    Hi There,

I've just bought a property and the electricity is naturally in the old owners name. Can you outline the process we need to take to switch this over to my name?

    Thanks!

    Hi Same As,

Thanks for your interest in Electric Ireland.

To register the electricity supply in your name, just take a meter-reading and contact us with this, your date of moving in, and the MPRN (meter point reference number) - if you have a closed Electric Ireland account, take note of this also as it can be reopened for you.

You can avail of savings (for e.g. direct debit, Online Billing, gas in addition to electricity) by registering with the Sales team on 1850 30 50 90.

Opening your account will automatically close the previous occupier's account and issue a final bill in their name. If they're an Electric Ireland customer and you have their forwarding address, it can be arranged for the final bill to be sent to them. If you do not have their forwarding address or if they were not with Electric Ireland, the final bill will automatically go to your address (but it will be in their name).

Please let us know if you have any further queries.

    Kind regards,
    Una
