Isn't the change in kicking to touch after 80 a law variation rather than a directive in any case? Definitely shouldn't be able to come in mid-season if a law variation, and I suspect the substitution in referee may have been key here.

    Get outta it...
How has Connacht's scrum regressed so much from last week? On second viewing, looks like Wasps loosehead is completely driving inwards; poor from the TJ on the near side.

    blown away in the scrum

Not convinced by the Wasps LH scrummaging alright and Garces spent most the night on the other side(despite what Stuart Barnes seems to think, he actually couldn't tell which was the TH and LH side while looking directly at the scrum at one point)
    Hagz wrote: »

First time I've seen that new linout rule in a game. Worked great for Connacht :D
Actually dont think they are, but worked out brilliantly! Dawai looking super as well in his cameo.

    They're not, again, Stuart Barnes.

Why are you all talking about directives? What are they in relation to and why is it important in the conrext of this match? I missed a bit getting to the pub to see the leinster game

Well done Connacht..last minute dramas are always the best

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,978 ✭✭✭✭irishbucsfan

The referee who replaced Garces was Reynaud, hardly an inexperienced nobody... very poor mistake from him to make but obviously no way to know what else they would have done if they didnt have the kick available.

Connacht won a penalty after 80 minutes and were allowed to kick to touch, scored from the resulting lineout.

New law in place in the southern hemisphere now(I think?) and coming here son that a game can't end with a penalty to touch. Muldoon asked we had time to go to touch, ref said yes, Barnes said it was because of the new directives because Barnes and caused confusion.

Was the penalty not won at 79:57 or so which is why Reynaud allowed them to go to the corner? Apologies if not I was a bit distracted jumping around the room at the time...

Lord that was unreal. I'm usually optimistic enough but didn't give us a prayer after it went 18 13. Delighted for Jack Carty, taken his share of criticism, balls of absolute steel tonight.

    Eh?
Muldoon asked the ref about the new "penalty after 80 minutes" lineout directive. He would only have asked if he was told 80 minutes was up.

Niyi is a LEGEND, won us the game in a ruck against one of the best pack, whereas he was considered too light for rugby 3 years ago!

    Wasps 13
    Toulouse 13
    Connacht 13

    Wasps top on points difference.

Fair enough, didn't realise it went straight to points difference. We've a game against Zebre at home still to play while Toulouse have played them twice already though so surely we'll be overtaking them. Hopefully by round 6 Toulouse are mathematically out and less interested.

Can anyone tell me who the f**k won MOTM the announcer said it was Launchbury, Ultimate rugby said it was Bundee and Jack jumped over the hoarding with the trophy.

I completely read it wrong I thought connachta was on about the try scorer. Must still be light headed from screaming.

Apparently Barnes gave it twice on sky sports! Then Aki gave it to Carty during interview

You're a 100% forgiven given the euphoria! But yeah when I saw Niyi contesting the ball I thought "game over", than he held on extra second against 2 or 3 Wasps forward. Deserves all the credit for the equaliser try, thank you to him! :D

Few times I noticed Carty kicks better for touchline conversion than regular positions. Blessed for that today :D

I think it is possible that 1 kick can turn around a players season. The confidence he will have gotten from that after obviously working very hard over the past few weeks with Eric. Dawai seems like a good bit of business too. Very mobile which gives us so many more options.

    Yeah that's legend
Still think it will be hard to qualify in Toulouse. But it doesn't matter. We wrote history in 2016. We've beaten the 3 Irish provinces, the 3 Welsh, Toulouse, Glasgow twice, won the title, and now one of the best team for years in England.
God I remember the defeat in Cavaliere Prato. We've made a GIANT step, it's cristal clear now.

Could help us to sign Buckley/McCartney/Roux again, too.
