Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hello all,

I have a 54ltr tank with 1 goldfish and 4 Zebra danios. I've previously upgraded from a 10ltr to a 29ltr to the current 54ltr but on further reading it seems my tank is too small. My goldfish is now getting his tail nipped by at least 2 Zebras.
My plan is now to go tropical as the size is more suited? But I'm looking to rehome the fish I have now, I'm living in Waterford if anyone can help out?
Any other advice is greatly appreciated as I'm a newbie.

The pet adoption section of Adverts.ie is very active and a lot of goldfish get rehomed there.

As for other advice I'd say read up on the nitrogen cycle if you haven't already. Get hardy fish for your first time out, male guppies and some corydoras would be good for a 54L.

Also dont be afraid of putting some plants in the tank. If you get an anubias and/or java fern thats already attached to a bit of wood or somehting you cant go wrong really. Plants absorb nitrates, ammonia etc. and also help oxygenate the water.

Keep the Danios as they are tropical fish. They are suited to a tank that is in the 18 - 25 C range.

    Just rehome the goldfish

Where are you based? I could take the danios?

Agreed or started a pond out the back and pop him in there, but which ever you do I would get the gold fish out of there before he dies from stress!
