Here's the full power of this storm hitting Thorshavn in the Faeroes:

    METAR EKVG 231920Z AUTO 26039G75KT 230V300 5000NDV -SHRA BKN014/// 04/02 Q0963 RMK OVC015/// WIND 850FT 29051G91KT 240V320

Decoded, this says at 1920z winds at the sea level station were west 39 knots gusting to 75 knots, wind was oscillating around from SW to NW, light showers passing, temp 4, dew point 2 ... at 850 ft which I think is a regular second report they have in windy weather on a nearby hill, wind WNW 51 knots gusting to 91 knots and also varying from WSW to NW. Knots are almost double km/hr, would say double then take away 10%.

They are well used to it. :)

I'm not too far away. About a 40 min drive from torshavn. I heard up in the hills earlier is was 140kph. Down in the villages it's stormy but ok depending on the direction I suppose.
Saying that though there is no way that I'd go for a drive out of the village tonight.

The last flight before Christmas landed with a 2.5 hour delay.

    Merry Christmas!

Google translate didn't do much assistance with that article, but from what I gather it's the last flight from the Faroe islands before Christmas?

For the record, even stronger winds in this 2120z report from Thorshavn...

    METAR EKVG 232120Z AUTO 26041G82KT 230V290 3100NDV -SHRA BR OVC009/// 03/01 Q0966 RMK OVC010/// WIND 850FT 29052G96KT 220V310

Airport has 41 knots gusting to 82 knots, higher location is 52 gusting to 96 knots.

If you go to uk.mmweather.net, you can see what the wind is on a few of the offshore platforms in the North Sea etc.

Thistle Alpha (aka, the black pig) is showing 80 knot winds at 11:15pm tonight.

Yep that's correct. Christmas day here is the 24th.
Google translate won't be able for it. It's similar to Icelandic and Norwegian but not similar enough.

Sat pic of the front moving over Ireland today with individual clouds and cooler air in its wake. Nice shadows being cast from the big clouds by the low December sun.

STORM BARBARA Plane Skids On Runway Crosswind Extreme Landing

Looks a very normal crosswind landing to me and she certainly does not go off the runway

I'd say there was some white knuckles all the same, hope Burts Bee's flight from Newcastle went well :)

The Lufthansa A321 that I caught landing at Shannon earlier looked much more unstable and stomuch wrenching than the two Stobarts that landed before it!

Just shows how deprived people are of some real winter weather
We have just had 20 pages concerning a windy day

I'm almost certain that video was published a few years ago as part of a compilation of "hairy" landings at Birmingham UK. I certainly don't think this is from yesterday's storm.

Looks similar to me too. Birmingham, and certainly not yesterday.

You try holding a phone over an airport perimeter fence with wind gusting to 40kts and see how you do.

    Shame I didn't bring a stepladder though.

Buy a GoPro and a selfie stick if you want to be doing this! ;)

Wasn't so windy this morning (approx 60 km/h) so I'm not sure if that was wind related:

Could still well be, a windshear warning is often an automatic go-around for many airlines on their first approach, even if no actual windshear is experienced.
