Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

No goals but an entertaining 45 mins for the more discerning football fan :)
Is Firmino playing in the back 3 or the front 3 :pac:

It councides nicely with the decline in the top English teams (eg. what you are watching this evening) and strides forward being made by Spanish (particularly) and German sides.

This football is very similar to the football played when English teams dominated the CL.

Chelsea won it 4 years ago, so I'm failing to see your point.

And it typifies why the premier league is the most watched in the world, not boring ould ****e like most European games.

You obviously don't watch the other leagues that often.

Last victory was in 2005 so hardly a model of recent European success.

Come on, it's an Everton vs Liverpool match thread, why not make a separate thread if you feel so strongly about this?

I'd say it was played with more skill then and with a higher quality of player at the top English sides. I'd also say that football has changed fairly significantly since then.

    Joint 3rd highest cup winner.

Your points are all arbitratory nonsense. Liverpool not having won it for 11 years is an indication of nothing.

Barca didn't win it for 24 years.
Real didn't win it for 33 years.
United didn't win it for 31 years.
Bayern didn't win it for 35 years.

It's a hard cup to win on a consistent basis and teams go through spells where they do well in it. 5 years is a nonsense timescale when you're talking about something like this.

I didn't mention the other leagues. I said European football which was clearly referring to the CL and EL.

Everton on top first half but no real quality so far.

It goes through cycles though. I think we will see the English game going through a period of dominance again in the next ten years.

    Poor game.

I hope we can get a bit more of the play in the second half. We could really do with winning this game for a few reasons. Hopefully we'll have more gas in the tank the last 30 mins. It'd be nice timing for Sturridge to get his first league goal in ages.

Need Can early in the second half. He'll add some positivity in the middle and he's not afraid to stick the foot in.

With the coaches present in England and the money at their disposal you'd think that should naturally be the case but I do feel that the landscape of English football just isn't conducive to it.

Anyway in regards the match, Liverpool looked a bit better when Firmino went central and linked up play a bit between the lines. Clyne and Milner must do more to drive the Everton full backs back into their own half.

Who comes off though?. Lovren is the free man all the time but it would be a brave move to replace him with Can and reshuffle.

Uh oh, McCarthy off, Barry on.

Firmino seems to think he has fúcking ages on the ball.

He scored lots of goals early in the season, it was unsustainable.
He'll get scoring again no doubt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,932 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Any time Everton get it we have to rely on our defence to stop them, our midfield just get bypassed so easily.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,292 ✭✭✭GreNoLi

    Lovren's tattoos are incoherent.

It's far from atrocious. It is very short on real quality, but it is frantic and high tempo. It's certainly not boring like the Liverpool Utd match was, even if the score is the same so far.

  • That was crucial from baines. Keeper too slow to come out

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,388 ✭✭✭✭Jayop

I'm enjoying it as a neutral.
