Carrying Kayak on Car

Looking for something that can be easily attached and removed from car to carry a kayak. Essentially don't want something that has to be left on the car all the time, but happy to spend 5-10 minutes setting it up - whether roof bars or whatever. Also, where is the best place to buy?

The above is a product on the Halfords site. It is costly at €210 and you would also need roofbars as well. So not cheap.

Maybe others just use ratchet straps to secure it to the roof bars.

The roof bars could be left on all the time.

Get proper roof bars for your car. They only take 5 mins to put on.

Cheap generic ones from Halfords or inflatable ones will only scratch and/or buckle the roof.

i got a set for the duster for 90 euro,
I've used them plenty of times and they are solid.

dublin to mayo with the kayak on them and not a bother.

That's some rip off for what it is, a bit of tubular steel with some foam padding on it.

I new to Kayaking. Trying to figure out what the best way of securing the kayak to the roof rack of my car is without damaging the roof, the roof rack, or the Kayak. I don't want it to fly off at 70mph either. What are the tricks of the trade?

I got these from micks garage, and have used them multiple times with the kayak, really safe and can take the weight.

What car are you driving? Best thing is a proper set of roof bars designed for your car and a good set of straps to keep it secure on the roof. I find that using the roof bar pads help the boat stock to the roof, rather than slipping on the plastic coating on the roof bars. Once boat is up and before you drive off, double check the boat is tight and not moving.
