Was I the only one confused by the 2 arches that looked like finish lines about 200m short of the actual finish line? I wasted the little bit of energy I had running to them and was gutted to find there was another bit up hill to go!

Died at 18km was hanging onto target time till just after water stop the rise and wind and just went backwards.

It's just pulls than hills but I think wind played a bigger part

I think old route was faster

they tricked me aswell, very hard to tell from the distance started sprinting thinking I was nearly finished! Only to realise I had another bit to go.

Delighted with the my time. I had stomach problems after my first energy gel so didn't take any more after that. It bothered me throughout the race so I'm going to have to think about what I'm eating in the build-up and taking on during the race.

Really enjoyed the route particularly coming back in from UL on the greenway. I thought it was well organised but having to work my way through the half marathon runners when I got back into town wasn't ideal. Probably because I hadn't been expecting it more than anything.

I found the last 3/4k very tough.

Achill Island has two of the most challenging half marathon race routes, if you want to see some really brutal hills over the summer. ;)

That said, Limerick is tougher than I used to think it was. I'm familiar with all those hills near Thomond Park and the Gaelic Grounds, so growing up running in that area probably clouded my judgement of how tough that section must be to others. Greenfields Road drags a bit too on the way up to the intersection/roundabouts. Same up near Collins's Bar.

We got so lucky with the weather though. Made up for how miserable it was on Saturday. :)

See your Achill and raise you another Western wonder. I haven't run either it yet, but it's on the list :)

Very cool! I'll see if I can add it to my calendar for 2018. I've just signed up for the Mungret St. Paul's GAA Club 10k on the 14th. Looks like I'll be doing the half in Dingle again this year as well.

I might add that although I haven't run that race, I've run up and down the hills many times.

Good day for me. Managed to find myself in a nice group of 4 from 4km through to 19km. The group pace was at the very upper limit for me, but the alternative was dropping off and running on my own which would have been tough in the windy conditions and rolling hills. I had to dig in deep mentally on the last drag up by the gaelic grounds as my pace dropped off slightly and I was detached from the group. I was able to regroup on the flat and downhill finish.

Enjoyed the weekend and the course. The race organisation was good. Im not sure if I would have enjoyed the marathon with the staggered half marathon start. Thumbs up for the pubs and grub in Limerick too!

A few of us ran this half at the weekend.
If you like hills then this is the event for you and it's only 50 minutes from Limerick.

Got my mojo back yesterday after a rotten day last year in Dublin.Having done a few m.p runs on the new course, over the last few weeks,I knew what Hill's were ahead of me from 21 to 24.5 miles.Around 30 were,in the 3 hour pace group at the start, when I left dermot kearns,at 40 K only 3/4 were still with him.(Don't tell me this is not a hilly marathon). My stupid cheap Garmin forerunner 10,decided to give up on me round mile 21,so I was running bye feel the last 2K,when I left the pacer.Delighted to get a new p.b bye 6 seconds,2:57:41.

Well done on the PB, but I disagree it's a hilly marathon. Few climbs but by no means would I describe it as hilly.

Was my first year in a few not running any event, but playing supporter was a fantastic experience on Sunday. Nothing like seeing so many people you know, and those you train with running so well. Well done to all that ran. That wind even made standing a bit annoying!

I suppose all the bad days out must finally give way to one good one, and Sunday was the best of all for me. 11 min PB, and smashed the 3 hour mark at it too for the first time. Weather was great, Dermot the 3 hour pacer was spot on, the loop out to the Crescent and around was a pain in the hole again, and the end wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Strong for 90% of this, like I say I hate that Crescent out and back, but couldn't believe how good I felt for the last 5 miles. Managed to drop the hammer and churn out a negative split by a minute. Delighted so I am.

I was really disappointed by the expo, not a whole lot there other than food stalls and a couple of health check / exercise stands. Took forever to get in there parking wise but was dead in the actually building.

Found the heat on the day a bit too much and found the Ennis Road tough enough, delighted that the final 1km was pretty much straight though and had a ton of supporters along the route. Really enjoyable overall though :)

Delighted with my time. Was never going to get near a PB due to lack of training and advancing age!!!
    Once again support was excellent.
I don't know about the new route, the Gaelic Grounds section was horrible
I also felt sorry for marathon people looking to run about 3 hour pace. They met up with us half marathon people at mile 1 to 2 and it was a bit congested

New PB and under the target, so happy with that. Could have been at least 2mins better but for quad seizing up towards end of mile 23. Made the last 2 miles torture every time the foot hit the ground. Dug it out and pace dropped, thought 2.55 was gone but on approach to the final bridge, i just kicked and went for it and got to line in discomfort but happy. Will require a trip to physio as still very tender and restrictive.

Overall a good event. Run out from halfway to back in past the Crescent rugby club was tough going into a head wind and up hill at times. Rest was rolling but manageable, Bar the loop up round the Gaelic grounds, which was run in discomfort but tough part of course at that stage. Lovely run in from UL (running through UL very strange, like felt i was off course at times until a orange bib appeared in distance). Ran a few miles in from UL with Pauline Curley which was great. Pre and post race was very good.

    Worth the trip down for.

First time doing Limerick, impressed with the facilities at the start, portaloo's the cleanest I've seen and the urinals a great idea (if you're a fella). First half of the course I enjoyed, quite scenic for much of the way. Second half not so enjoyable, having to work our way through the HM runners, especially on the out and back sections when you're overtaking with oncoming runners too. Weather brilliant (where do they get these forecasters from!) and overall an enjoyable experience although probably wouldn't do it again if the second half of the route remained the same. Fully realise that the event is essentially a HM but think it could be better organised with regard to the middle ranking marathon runners, eg. Clonakilty.

Havedone the GLR every year since 2010, either full or half. But this year I have to say was the best for crowd support. got a great lift comning back into town on the mid point of the half. The really need to do something with starting times for the events, they need to be spread out a bit.

Congratulations on all the great performances mentioned above!

Must admit I was a bit apprehensive about this run after an unplesant DNF at the Conn Ultra the previous w/end. Formulated a rough plan on the drive from a monsoon-hit Cork to a thankfully dry Limerick that morning to get in ~5k running before the start & then run with ger664 & his buddy who were pacing the 4h group. The reason for the extra 5k was to get me just over the distance where I dropped in Conn.

I really like the start of the marathon in Limerick as it's nice & compact. Finished my pre-run jog & arrived at the very back just as Gerry Forde was kicking off his race. Run started & over the first mile I worked my way up to the 4h group. Stuck with them 'til around mile ten when I was fairly sure nothing bad was going to happen so I pushed on a little bit and ended up finishing in just under 3:40. Felt fine all the way so it was a much needed confidence boost.

The new route was ok, I really like the path along by the Shannon. My only real gripe with the race is the amount of bollards & steel poles that have to avoided & that you spend a good bit of time hopping on/off footpaths, road running is a lot easier.

Got a new pb by over 8mins. The weather gods were on our side today. The plan was to run with the 3:45 pacer today but I ran with a friend and the pace was faster but it felt comfortable so I stuck with it. Not running with a pace group helped as it wasn't crowded. The hills were not as bad as I remembered from last year( the training has paid off) but still they were drags. The wind wasn't too bad either. Ran the 2nd half just 4 secs slower than the 1st so the pace was evenly paced. Found the last mile hard mainly because I was pushing hard. Overall I found the race good not flat and not hilly. Delighted with my time. Running into the back of the half wasn't too bad, some weaving but overall I found it helped with my pace. Just felt nice overtaking people rather than being overtaken myself. Well done to everyone who participated.

Great to hear/see that this event seems to be establishing itself properly at last...it was pretty ropey for the first few years so it seems lessons are being learned.

Would still have issues with the price but people will ultimately vote with their feet.

I was actually extremely comfortable for the most part. I had done a lot of 5k's, 4 and 5 mile's the past year and they actually take a lot more out of me. They are intense and 'uncomfortable. The pace in a 'h-m' is actually a good deal slower and I enjoyed it more :).

Forgot to include my time on the table earlier.

How's the recovery going for people who are still getting used to their distance? I'm feeling far fresher today than I thought I would. I was expecting to have DOMS until Wednesday!

Quads a bit sore - kids asked to go hillwalking yesterday what with the fine weather. Uphill was fine, coming down was torture!!
