Sorry if this has been asked already. Is there a bag drop tomorrow? And if so, where is it? Don't see much info on the website and forgot to ask at the expo.

    Thanks
Apparently there's a new one this year, just at the back of Pery square near the start. It's at St. Micheal's church. Be warned if you put St. Michael's church into Google Maps it brings u to another one. Maybe a local can clarify?

The St Michaels Church that's in Pery Square (which is the start area) is the Church of Ireland version. Google Maps picks the Catholic one for some strange reason!! That is very good news. Where did you get that info?

I'm pacing and we were told to meet at the new baggage area at St. Michael's church at the back of the start area, so took a bit of head scratching to figure out. Thanks for clarifying!

Halfway through a bowl of porridge here....hoping that the wind doesn't blow out one of my garden fence panels :-(

Fingers crossed it calms down a bit....don't mind the rain but that wind could make things tricky

What's with these nerves ..you would swear I was in contention for some thing. Ha

Fighting a niggle in the past few days but sub 70 for sure and aiming for a lot quicker! Little lad from Connemara running his first Irish half marathon!!

Well done chief, seriously good running out there. Conditions couldn't have being easy.

Great day, PB in the half for myself. Mile 12 was a killer with wind and hill, but a well organised event, everyone was v. Friendly.

    Any link for result?

1:36something. Not quite target but a solid PB! First one in a while so I'll take it.

The Locke Bar for a PB beer. Not too many mind.

Waiting patiently to know how the Bitter Lemon got on!

Agree with this. A very nice event to be part of. Just delighted to finish as had really bad cramp from mile 14. Had to run / walk but great to finish. As for the argument as to whether it was a hilly course, damn well seemed hilly to me! Couldnt get over how hilly it was tbh.

I'm buzzing. Still waiting on the official chip time, but my own timer on Run Keeper had me at 2:10:15. Ever so slightly disappointed to miss 2:10, but delighted with the whole thing.

I think it was the first time I've ever done the full 13.1 miles without stopping to walk, stretch, use a toilet, or fix my footwear.

I didn't get his full name, but there was a gentleman called Gerry running in a Suicide Prevention charity t-shirt whom I followed for about 9 miles. His pacing and advice and approach to the run were superb. I would have made a mess of it if I hadn't been tagging along behind him.

    Great day out :-)

My first race since late last year....have had a hellish few months of illness so great to be back out and part of what is becoming a big event.

The organization has deffo improved year on year (I did the marathon the very first year and it was a bit messy), fabulous atmosphere for the 6 miler and the sun literally came out of nowhere.

Oh..and the first race I've done where a priest has given a blessing at the start :-)

Was about 20 secs outside my PB which isn't too shabby after about 4 weeks proper training. Will stick up a more detailed report on my log later on

  • Registered Users Posts: 928 ✭✭✭Jakey Rolling

A bit meh for me and only myself to blame. Got enthusiastic and stuck with the 3:15 pacers as the pace was feeling comfortable enough. Actually went through halfway on 3:13 pace, a bit too far ahead of my 3:20 target. Started to suffer after the first minor hill at mile 16, lots of walking breaks from there in! Finished in 3:36, ouch!

FWIW I didn't find it over hilly, Strava makes it 160m climbing which I'd clock up on my usual 10mile runs. Just the hills being near the end and the bit of wind made it harder.

Back in Dublin now, the weather gods truly blessed us and it was a fantastic day in Limerick.
Really well organised race, and a lovely friendly atmosphere.
Both knees held up well, last two miles or so felt quite hilly with ups and downs but overall it was really enjoyable.
Finished in 1:43:49 which was nicely below my target time of 1:46, ran by feel more than anything else as it was my first half.
Enjoying a cold one now, thanks to the organisers and the people of Limerick for your hospitality and a Great Limerick Run!

Missed my slightly over ambitious target that I set here...but delighted overall given the circumstances. Had flirted with the notion of a sub 40 halfway round but I was never going to have enough in the tank in reality.

I'm bitterly disapointed. I was going well, until after mile 6, and my left thigh, just, something went. I had a sharp pain, and the next four mile were horrible. Pace went from 8:25 -> 10:02 -> 10:46 -> 10:53. I manged to do 10:03 -> 10:02 -> 9:30 for the last 3 to save some face, but overall, a disaster. I did stop to help a woman who was experiencing calf cramps, and that probably added a couple of minutes on, but at that stage, it really didn't matter, and I know I felt like crap with those cramps at DCM and I would have appreciated any help at that time!

It's really put a downer on my day, and I need to cop on a bit! I didn't think my training was quite good enough for that pace for the whole 1:50, but I thought 1:55 would have been doable. I'm going to take a few days, go for the 10k in Mungret in two weeks, and then get settled down for Berlin training, which thankfully will be a bit slower training than this lot.

I think I need to review my diet a bit. It definitely wasn't as good, and my stomach was a bit gurgly near the start, but it passed.

I know. If you had told me 4 years ago, that a) I would be able to run 13.1 miles (let alone the 3rd one this month!), and that b) I would be disappointed in doing it in just over 2 hours, I would have laughed you out the door, so perspective I suppose. It's just disappointing that it happened with something outside my control. If I didn't train right, I could at least be mad at myself!

new to Running since February I got my target of 50 mins for the 6 mile really happy! Who knows might attempt half marathon next year! Now to the pub for a few pints(only a few now mind)

Well done everyone. The weather really was s pleasant surprise to what I thought it was going to be. Had no sleep last night at all so was not in a good place this morn. Completely surprised myself with a PB of 3:59:39 (table name is AGilleran don't wanna ply with it at min as on phone) found first half flat enough but after that it was tough enough with Hills and then the wind kicked up a small bit. Thought I would hate the looping but actually it was grand and found the company of the other runners nice. Have only done big marathons up to this and have to say I enjoyed the easy access to portaloos at the start, no stress at all. A good day at the office

First half marathon done and dusted. Time 2:00:21, was hoping to do it under 2 hours. Damn 22 seconds :-) My fault really, got over enthusiastic at 12km and decided to go faster. Then at 18km got really tired so had to slow down. Next time I have to plan better. I was told before race that it's very flat, didn't feel flat tbh, specially the socond half. As it was my first big race so can't really compare, but I really liked it, seemed well organised. Onto the next one..

we all 'have to start somewhere', my first 2 'halves' were both over 2 hours and ran 1'44 yesterday, so you can certainly improve :) and you still had the experience of finishing , in a reasonable time too actually :)

I think I'm happy with that. I had a better target but recent issues moved me away from that. I still harboured hope of doing it but it was a big ask the way I approached it. Ran with a buddy on 1:38ish pace to 6 miles. This was deliberate as I have found if I control the pace early, the injury doesn't come on half as strong then. Pushed on then but overcooked the efforts a couple of times and had to back off. A strong second half, if a little inconsistent pace wise, got me home with nearly a 2 minute PB.

I like the new route, really do. The wind was certainly a factor yesterday at times. The rolling (not hilly) nature of the route is a challenge and can make judging even splits difficult. Overall, quite well organised and a good experience as a race. They need to do work on the goody bag and the quality of the expo, and maybe the price, but they're getting there....

And now.... It's physio time and a few easy weeks!

Achill Island has two of the most challenging half marathon race routes, if you want to see some really brutal hills over the summer. ;)

That said, Limerick is tougher than I used to think it was. I'm familiar with all those hills near Thomond Park and the Gaelic Grounds, so growing up running in that area probably clouded my judgement of how tough that section must be to others. Greenfields Road drags a bit too on the way up to the intersection/roundabouts. Same up near Collins's Bar.

We got so lucky with the weather though. Made up for how miserable it was on Saturday. :)

Agreed. There is a good few pulls made more difficult by the pace you run them at on race day. Any other day you would ease up a bit and take it handy. The pulls you mentioned plus going back into town passing LIDL and up to the top of O'Connell Avenue. The North Circular Road the wrong way around is no joke either, long slow pull. And then the new double whammy at the Gaelic Grounds. Like I said, none of them are overly big in their own right, but sap the legs at race pace all the same.
