Did you do the strides on the treadmill? If so, how do you get the speed up fast enough for the short sharp burst? Treadmill in my gym would take about 20 seconds to get up to sprinting speed.

I did do it on the treadmill and made them 30 second bursts rather than 100m, my treadmill has a max mph of 10 so I went to that and then put the incline to 3 which according to my Pace Chart is 5'30-5'40 pace, I probably need to up the incline to about 5 though. Just to note I would normally do it outside on the flat but it was just too icy where I live, and it's the same again today but don't think I could face 9 miles on a treadmill.

I thought I better update although there's not much to update on the running front, just before xmas I slipped and caught my knee of my pillar, nothing life threatning but enough to make me not want to risk anymore running in that weather. Then baby number 3 (Sophie) arrived early so I decided to hell with it a complete break from running and will only start up again when the paths are sorted.
Rotterdam still on but will probably end up another get me round effort :D

Thanks for all the pms of concern and within the next few days I'll be back in action.

    Hi Woodle,

You dont know me but it feels as if i know you.... Ive beeing reading your Log and i find it a great read and has been an inspiration to me since i started running or should i say started getting off the sofa since September. I would like to thank you and all the others, you know who you are for all the tips and motavation burst i have got from reading Logs and posts. I have booked in for my first race which is the Wexford half which im looking forword to. I am running about 20 miles per week along with circuit training and some speed work on a track. I have also joined a running group which is a great help as i find it hard to run on my own.
Again i would like to say a big thank you to all and ill pop in now and again to say hi.
Congrats to you and your family on your new arrival.

Cheers everyone for the nice comments.
Finally got off the mark today with a run of 3.85 miles, done very easy. Happy to have completed it without stopping but not so happy in that my knee was still causing me some pain for the last 1/2 mile. I havn't written of Rotterdam yet as I'd love to go but will see how my knee is feeling at the end of the week.
Good to be back running though

Well my last run of 2 weeks ago turned out to be another false start, my knee causing me alot of heart ache but 2 weeks of doing the most boring exercises seems to have seen me right and this morning saw me complete my first pain free run in 9/10 weeks :D
The plan now is no marathons and I'm now going to target a bit of speed, concentrate on running the sportsworld 5 in May (not bothered about time just yet) and then run the graded meets, glad to be back again.
The best thing about this mornings run was the peace and quite on the roads and back in the house as the kids are still asleep after my grandparents renewed their wedding vows last night celebrating 50 years of being married  and the kids got to stay up way later than normal, now I'm going to get a hot chocolate and I'm going to enjoy reading the racing post and see if I can't pick out a winner or 2, I was so unlucky with Ireland in the rugby I went with them to win by -4 pts.
    Hane a nice day everyone.

Crap I can hear the kids waking :)

Good to see that you're back. I'm moaning about being sick for two weeks can't imagine how crappy it must be to have been off for 10 weeks.

Inspired and motivated by all those runnig yesterday, so up at 5:30 for a 5k and will be meeting a friend for a lap of marley after the school drop.

5k @ 8'40 pace, felt harder than it should

Great to see you back. My advice would be to leave the watch at home for the next week or two and just get out there and enjoy it.
Don't worry about paces and that they will come in time the more important thing is getting the hunger back after injury.
