In fairness he is not pretending it can do what it can't do. With a very light foot in perfect circumstances driving it slowly, it will probably do close to 100km alright.

If you can get a few quid off, and you are aware of the limited range, it's not a bad buy imho. The early Japan cars have all the bells and whistles. Personally I'd up the budget a few grand and go for a 141 (with lower spec), but not everybody can do that and some people really only need very little range for their commute and the local (school etc. runs)

So if you were to buy this, there obviously is no VAT.

But is there no VRT either ? due to electric or have i got that wrong.

No VAT, no VRT, nothing. You will have to fork out for Irish number plates, that's all :)

If you can get the car for GBP17.8k, pay with Revolut card(s) and get yourself a very cheap flight and ferry and bring your own sandwiches, you could land it for €21k

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 19,021 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

That's essentially it, €25 for number plates from the VRT centre or €20 from a local car parts store

Then a years tax at €120

That’s a great Ioniq there. I have to say, if that was there when I bought the i3 I would have considered it. The leather interior makes all the difference over the Irish cars.

If the seller takes 17,500 then a it’s €20,340 in euro to buy according to my N26 account right now.
Flights and boat on top or pay a shipping truck to collect and deliver to you for €400.

Very unlikely the seller will accept 17.5k

What is the opinion on this...?
What would one who knows nothing about electric cars look for ?

PS... I'm not intending to drive from Dublin to Donegal via Cork anytime soon !

He's doing well to have 10 bars and the GOM reading 178km after 100k miles.

You're only real issue is trying to get a VRT appointment.

Not really. Takes about 3 weeks at present. The one in Ballymount is open 7 days a week.

You’ll get it within the 30 days but you might have to call instead of going online.
I had my vrt at 1030 Pm last night in Northpoint.

3 weeks from today goes way past the dreaded 29!!! ;)

If you've already brought in a car and your appointment is for after 29th March, I somehow don't think you will have to pay VAT on the car no matter what happens in a certain country across the water on that day ;)

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,935 ✭✭✭ewj1978

ah but there in lies the uncertainty. Revenue have made no announcements of any such deal and unless they do I would certainly be thinking that an import tax will be applied to all cars from the UK after the 29th as they already apply to all other non-EU countries.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 39,315 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Maybe if you can prove it was in the country before the date you should be ok?
But as you say, it’s uncertain with no official guidance from the authorities.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 19,021 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

Common sense will prevail, there will be plenty of goods moving between here and the UK subject to VAT etc. they are not going to red tape previous transaction that did not present before the "date"

    Bargain or absolute nightmare?

2015 Leaf 24kWh 11bars with over 250,000km on the clock!

It says "Transmission noise". Unless thats fixed first (or under warranty) I'd be running a mile.

Fair play to whoever put 250k on it in 4years though. They got their value and its between 79-85% battery health so it has held up well for that mileage.

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,989 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

Stay away from that for sure. EVs don't give issues but when they do they are super expensive as no one can fix them except main dealers for the most part. 2015 leaf likely well out of warranty at this point.

That's the first time I have ever heard a LEAF suffering from a mechanical issue in the drivetrain. Wonder if the fluid was changed as scheduled at 160k?

Original Leaf has 5 year battery and drivetrain warranty? If so, should be covered under manufacturers warranty? The fact that the seller is a independent car dealer specialising in EVs, and this issue is not investigated, doesn't inspire much confidence in the dealer imho

True but with the mileage it wouldnt be covered - 100k km warranty only

Agree with your point re the dealer. To be honest I'd be skeptical of most EVs for sale online at a dealer that was not a well known one like Phil/electric autos in kildare.

Not really a bargain. My 2015 leaf sve with 90,000km was valued at 9k 14 months ago. This is lesser spec with over double the miles. I'd value it at 5k max..

That guy is around a while now....probably started before Next Eco Cars. A lot of pictures of cars outside his houes. I talked to him and he said he is based "near Trim" which was an odd answer.....

    Warranty: No

I thought all used cars from dealers had to come with some form of warranty?

I've a bit of good news for you. Your car is worth a good bit more than that now!

If I was to sell that privately, I wouldn't be accepting any offer below 11k. Negative depreciation

I sold my 141 SVE last month for 11k so I wouldn’t read into valuations, especially if it was a dealer pricing it as a trade in.

Certainly dodge sounding if pictures are around his house and wouldnt give an exact location. Surely a real dealer would be trying to get you in?

They do, as per sale of goods act
If he's trying to sell with no warranties then it gives further dodginess

    +1

He can only sell into the trade with no warranty.
