I remember when I was 19 or so when Yahoo Irish chat rooms were a thing, there were quite a few people meeting up on that.

And when Facebook pokes were a thing years ago I ended up dating a girl as a result for about 6 months. If you sent or received a poke these days you'd run a mile and rightly so

Only my two cents.. But I think the type of people who've used dating sites have changed over the years.

Back over ten years ago when there was the social stigma of using a dating website, I think you'd meet more genuine people (meaning a lot more who actually wanted to date and see where things go) sure, always was and always will be those who just want sex. But it was an alternative way for people to meet.

Now it seems like nearly everybody bloody uses them or has used them. Along with that comes more negatives... More Serial daters. Timewasters. Messers. You name it.

People ''meet '' in person, even if their first interaction was online. This whole online thing is silly. If I was to see in person someone I got to know online, then I would meet them in a beautiful place. That would then be place we met !

Because there's whole threads elsewhere dedicated to Tinder and sites like it.

This one is for stories about the websites that weren't meant to be dating sites but people end up meeting on them anyway.

Met up with a girl off Yahoo Chat in 2006. Within an hour of meeting her I knew I was on to a winner. Got engaged in 2008, got a house in 2009 and married in 2010. Two kids since.

One of my friends at the time met a girl from MySpace back in the day and lost his virginity to her. IIRC she was 5 years older than him.
He just got chatting to her, then over a short time (a week I think) the conversation then turned into sex talk, he admitted he was a virgin and then she was up for it.

Within 10 minutes of meeting her he was already doing it (met at her place) Normally when I hear mates say things like this you go yeah right. But... Afterwards he showed me the profile and some of the messages. Guess he wanted to prove it wasn't bs. Lol.

There have been a few posters on boards that have caught my attention with a turn of phrase and bit of witty repartee...

I got married recently and I do slag off the wife that we are an internet love story
As whilst we did know each other prior to hookin up,we hadnt spoken in a few years and a bit of flirting on facebook led to a marriage

To this day I still maintain Facebook is better for getting the ride than Tinder. You can show off so much more of yourself through Facebook than Tinder. Chatting is still the same.

I had women from Holland, Poland, Scotland, Ohio, W Virginia, Washington State and Hawaii sending me photos of themselves on a Yahoo! chatroom at the same time. I could easily have pressed for more revealing photos and got them but I don't want to be that kind of person. Part of me regrets not going further but part of me knows that I chose the right action.
I don't find Irish women attractive enough to enter a relationship with and I've had more than my fill of them, so no, I don't want the ride from any of them tbh. That would have been about 5 years ago.

And the Dutch woman was a model in her teenage years... and is still a sexy woman.
