Shame he died a drug addict, many chronic addicts of very very modest means get clean and sober using the 12 steps and engaging a spiritual awakening. Always surprised me how millionaire celebs refuse to let go completely and accept they must grow spiritually to live clean.

Because they are still human beings, with flaws. Being a celebrity doesn't mean you become some super being. In fact, it is possibly harder, with people constantly telling you how fantastic you are, being able to have whatever you want. What can you aim for if you have everything?

    +1

A lot of addicts get treatment because they've hit rock bottom. Celebrities with their millions of dollars don't hit rock bottom they have a constant stream of cash to fund their addictions.

As well as the fact they can barely take a piss without everyone talking about it, it can be too embarrassing to go to rehab.

Foundation of the 12 steps. Quelling the ego and the mind massive to recovery. The addicts ego will insist you are fine even if you are living on the streets with a syringe in you arm, its the enemy of anyone in recovery.Spiritual growth is a must to recovery. Elton John has got to comment on the deaths of so many musicians, and may he keep doing so, far into the future!

For some maybe. You can only speak of your own journey and recovery. Some can overcome it by other determinants and means. In fact searching for spirituality is the last thing some people need to overcome addictions, for some a potentially negative factor in their recovery.
Rationalising your behaviour and its causes and effects and being exposed to the reality of the situation you are in are more profound methods than spiritual enlightenment.

    Anyway, different thread

I don't know why my post was deleted, I just mentioned I was sad to hear of his passing but inevitable due to the life of sin he committed too.

3 posts, 2 eulogising Trump and 1 condemning GM.

Now, I don't hate Trump as much as some, and I didn't like GM as much as others...but if I was to weigh them up in terms of morality I suspect Trump would be a long, long, long, long way behind...

I'm not exactly an observant Catholic, but I'm pretty sure the teaching is that everybody is a sinner, all of us. So what is your point?

He/she without sin cast the first stone.

I'm still amazed, after all the controversy in the catholic church, that it's followers can piously refer to gay men who take part in consensual relationships as "sinners".

Waiting For The Day was such a beautiful song. Really deserved to be a much bigger hit than it was. Think George was absolutely right about how that album was so poorly marketed.

Here's a clip where he talks about the creation of the song.

Loved waiting for the day- another great song-
every song on that Album was so good.
Played it yesterday - brought me back to another time, another place.

He died because he was physically sick. Nothing else.

At first I thought poster was on about George Michael been a Shinner...

But yeah, weird hearing people talking in such archaic language in this day and age.

In your world and life. You will not have me know anything like your beliefs because I am, in my mind, restful in my lack of belief of same.

And, for me personally, that is what makes life so precious.

There have been a few posts about Listen Without Prejudice in the last page or so.
The 25th anniversary box set is out on March 03, available for pre-order now at

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/tn0/Listen-Without-Prejudice-25-George-Michael/B01LQV2Z7C/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1482950886&sr=8-3&keywords=george+michael

Looking forward to it. I have practically everything on it but some recordings are a bit ropey especially MTV Unplugged which was never officially released. It will be nice to have a properly produced version. Some of the unplugged versions are excellent particularly You Have Been Loved.

I'll say this, if little Johnny or Paddy up the road had the amount of drink/drug driving convictions GM had they'd be called a fooking scumbag. But apparently that can't apply when you're a celebrity.
    .

Have little Johnny and Paddy also generously donated countless millions to needy causes? Inspired a generation of musicians? Or given many the courage and pride to accept their sexuality? No? Well, they're not bloody comparable then are they?

FFS little Johnny and Paddy indeed.

Not directed solely at George Michael but a multi millionaire donating a lot of money (he did not donate countless millions, don't go overboard here), to charity and using his stature to help raise more does not excuse him any more than any other person who drivers under influence of alcohol or drugs.

I say this as someone who lost one of my best friends to someone who drove manically drunk down the wrong side of the motorway a few years back and someone who has suffered seizures in later life due to a drunken hit and run when I was 11.

So yeah, the decisions of little Johnny and Paddy are very much on a par with GM, the latter worse maybe in some degrees.

So rich people committing crimes is acceptable.

Johnny and Paddy committing crimes not acceptable.

You're response pretty much proved the point the original poster was making.

Breaking the law is breaking the law whether you're rich or poor it's not an acceptable thing to be doing.

That lyric kind of fits well into this discussion. (whether intentionally or not by you!)

Noone is saying that GM doesn't deserve forgiveness and a chance to redeem himself for his actions, but none more than any other person that drinks and drives. You have to remember he committed this crime multiple times and possibly bought or charmed his way out of DUI charges a few times also, which tends to happen a bit with "celebrities" in The US.

You might want to better educate yourself re George Michael's philanthropy as he did indeed donate countless millions, 2 million to childline alone, trying to rebut my point with a false statement is rather infantile... Anyway I'm not commenting any further on this trainwreck.

RIP George Michael, your star will be missed.

Where did I say driving under the influence was acceptable?

My point was that to simply label him a scumbag like little Johnny and Paddy for his errs in judgement was to unjustly ignore the far greater good he contributed to the disadvantaged and the conflicted.
