    Hi folks,

I thinking of buying a new laptop and looking something top end.

I was looking along the lines of:

    Dell XPS 15
    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301891947263

    Dell Inspiron 15
    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291936364498

    ASUS Zenbook Pro
    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252542659331

When reading reviews all seem to have plenty of issues so not sure which is best.

I spent around €1600 a few years back on a high spec Sony Vaio laptop and it proved to be a complete dud so I want to be more careful this time around.

From the specs of the above you can see I want something really quick so if you are suggesting anything else then keep the specs high..

I already have a 2015 MacBook Pro in case anyone suggests to switch to a Mac..

    Any help appreciated ðŸ‘ðŸ»

    Cheers,
    mcquaim

What will you use it for?

    All round laptop..

Some software development, photo/video editing and some gaming but mostly want a good all-rounder for whatever I need to throw at it..

    ## Edit ##

    I read this interesting article:
    http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinions/best-intel-processor-core-i3-i5-i7

So, an intel i7 chip with a U suffix is only a dual core chip, never knew what those letters meant. It would turn me away from the Inspiron 15 above.

From looking around the net a lot of the laptops seem to ship with this variation of chip, why the lower prices...

I really like the look of the XPS 15 but it has some horrendous reviews with so many different issues. I believe a good few have been ironed out since it was released but even recent reviews are complaining about the screen and just too expensive for the performance..

Anybody have anything else to throw into the mix?

I went for the XPS 15 in the end.

After a lot of reading they say the majority of the issues have been resolved with bios updates and driver updates.

It looks like a nice machine:

    Intel i7 6th Gen 3.50ghz
    32GB DDR4
    1TB PCIe SSD
15.6" 4K Ultra HD InfinityEdge touch
    Dedicated NVIDIA GTX 960M 2GB GDDR5

Where did you get that? I see nothing above 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD in that range on their own website.

    I bought it here:

It's a refurb but comes with a 1 year warranty so can't go too wrong with that!

    Great price alright ðŸ‘ðŸ»

That GTX 1070 is something else, 8GB, holy crap..

It'd be a bit bulky for me but some beast for gaming!!

It's a little bit on the heavy side but I'm coming from a mbp which isn't the lightest kid on the block.
Build quilts thought it seemed the best and doesn't look too gamey. It's also got the graphics amplifier port which should hopefully mean I'll get as long out of it as my 6yr old mbp.

Would have considered dell but there laptops don't have the new cards yet think there waiting for ces in a few weeks.

I just watch a YT review of that Alienware, impressive machine..

With the specs in that thing I doubt you'll need an amplifier for a few years yet anyway!
