Need to scrap the 145 belt and get Holly a gimme fight and get her back into the 135 title picture.

They should just make that fight the number 1 contender match for the 135 belt

Shevchnko completely dismantled Holm. Even the UFC would find it difficult to legislate giving Holm the title fight ahead of her. Nunes shevchenko would be a great matchup.

Yeah I know she beat her (wasnt anything like a dismantling) but I was more so looking at it from a marketing point and styles one, for some reason I just want to see Holly Nunes.

I remember watching a build up video for Cruz a few months ago where he said he used to study tape on Muhammad Ali and try and bring that to MMA. I couldn't believe it when Cody schooled him with that sequence...

I really thought that Cruz would be too clever for him with the way he can break down fights in the analyst chair.

Cruz is like Conor he will address his short comings and come back I cant wait to see what he tweaks would like to see him fight Dodson or someone like that next.

Here I am feeling sorry for Ronda but I just finished watching Miesha Tate vs Ronda and after the fight Miesha put out her hand to shake and Ronda just looks at her and walks away. Such a scumbag she deserves to be beating.

Cruz probably be too big for him but I'd watch it both coming off loses though so maybe wont happen,

Heres a good piece from the man in the hat

She was calling out Tate's coaching as being a nobody and why was he coaching someone about to fight for a world title fight.

When did Rousey start training with Edmond?

2012/13 I think. She was with Hayastan MMA beforehand. They were the ones who developed her really, they specialize in Judo/Sambo/Grecco Roman wrestling. She must have a thing for Armenians too because they are another Armenian team.

Wonder does Cruz packs in the Fox tv job now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,081 ✭✭✭Fromvert

The TV gig has to be more valuable to him long term. 31, injury ravaged for a few years. I'd say he has to keep it for financial security after fighting.

Cruz is very good (both in and out of the cage) He will definitely be doing more tv work when he finishes, I don't think he needs to stop doing it now necessarily, but he might to focus solely on getting back to the top of the pile.

This says it all Ronda making sparring partners sign non disclosure orders, I wouldnt say they were allowed land a glove on her.

The way her face just lit up when she was hit by both Holm and Nunes probably means she gets hit very little if at all in training

I see Magny is going around saying how he's coming for the belt
    Hendricks was robbed like

It's the age old problem with Hendricks though. He does barely enough to pip a decision but the judges don't give it. Rinse and repeat for the next fight.

Magny didn't come out of it looking very impressive either though even with the win. Spent 3 rounds getting controlled and won because Hendricks didn't take advantage of his positions.

Not really a fight he can use as leverage to push himself up the ladder.

We are the new America, This is the new America

There was a palpable tension in the air. Pulses quickened. The lyrics from Rihanna’s ‘American Oxygen’ rang out in the T-Mobile Arena. Amanda Nunes confidently made her walk to the octagon awash between music and boos. The Rousey dominant crowd was baying for blood, heaving at the seams to see their hero restored to grace after her sparkling fall in November 2015. Her crown and the pedestal she once lived upon awaited her. All that stood in her way was The Lioness. Few could have predicted what was about to unfold.

48 seconds quickly passed and many of us were left feeling more than a little foolish.

Just over one week later and that feeling remains. The emperor has no clothes. During Rousey’s early career, she forged a path of destruction that led all the way to the biggest stage of them all. She singlehandedly dragged women’s mixed martial arts into the UFC; Dana White’s assertions that women would never stop foot in the octagon were trampled upon by the girl with a bad reputation. Six consecutive first round armbars catapulted her to fame, glory and centre stage of UFC 157 where she became the inaugural women’s bantamweight champion and the first female to headline a UFC PPV. This of course was only the beginning. With 16lbs of gold strapped around her waist, a further litany of record breaking PPVs and impressive finishes unfolded during her reign of terror. She became one of the biggest superstars the UFC had ever seen and opened up a whole new demographic of MMA fans. Young females began to tune in to view a woman dominate in a male centred blood sport. Movie offers arrived and the bright lights of Hollywood and the media began to detract from Ronda’s time in the gym. Still, her natural talents as a judoka and BJJ practitioner allowed her to continue to rack up the wins. In the shadows however, her vanquished conquests were replaced by another group of blood thirsty warriors slowly honing and sharpening their skills. While previously the women’s divisions were littered with limited fighters, a new strain had evolved.

November 2015 arrived with a proverbial head kick. The entire world was shell-shocked, none more so than Rousey. The media turned on her quickly, with many eager to stick the blade in on her way down to rock bottom. She disappeared from the public eye; talks of depression and suicide gave us a frightening glimpse into her mind set.
While Ronda recovered, the belt changed hands twice. First, Ronda’s conqueror Holly Holms was dispatched by Miesha ‘Cupcake’ Tate. Holms herself was made to look like a one trick pony and went on to suffer a second defeat during the summer of 2016. Her striking remains high level, but her grappling amateur at best.

Tate was then banished into early retirement in the headline fight of UFC 200. The Brazilian Amanda Nunes, with an insipid record of 12 and 4, emerged from the darkness to deliver a vicious striking display and earn a first round finish. Blood stained gloves, the new breed had arrived. Countless hours in the gym honing her talents away from the bright lights finally proved fruitful.

Rousey of course remained out of the public limelight. Finally in October 2016, Dana White announced her return. The mythical shroud now removed, she was back to take what was rightfully hers. She remained under the tutelage of Edmond Tarverdyan, despite vocal protests by her fans, detractors and even her mother. In the weeks leading up to December 30th, the blanket media ban and sparse information coming from her gym all suggested that this was a new Rousey. One who had returned to her base roots of hard work and dedication, fully focused on the fight at hand and devoid of the impossible task of balancing a multitude of commitments. She seemed primed to take her place back at the top of the sport. Physically, she appeared to be in the best shape she had ever been in. Focused. Hungry. However, this veneer was peeled away in 48 seconds last Friday night. From the moment the first punch landed, Rousey appeared to cower, no longer the indomitable aggressor. Her striking appeared to have worsened over the last twelve months. Cerebral instinct took over and she tried to grab an invisible gi. Empty screams from Edmund could be heard as blow after blow landed on her face, cushioned only by 4 ounces of padding. The Lioness announced her place on the big stage, silencing the boos and sending the rock star back to Hollywood with another cloud of mystery hanging over her future. Rousey remains the pioneer of women’s MMA. However, she failed to evolve as exponentially as the rest of her division. Like the pioneers of male MMA, Rousey was a specialist. A one dimensional fighter who remained so whilst her opponents developed their weaknesses. Eventually the sport caught up to Rousey as it did with Liddell, Couture and Gracie. What remains for her is anyone’s guess at this point. The new Queen of women’s MMA has arrived; behind her a pack of hungry wolves smell blood in the air as they tread past the limpless carcass of Ronda.

Hanley was banned because his head had grown so large it couldn't be contained in the board servers anymore.
