I see Stuarts are now advertising themselves as specialists in premium used cars , so maybe they are not taking on Volvo after all. No sign of the new Velar so assume they are just allowed to sell what new vehicles they have until franchise ends.
Volvo would be a good fit for them in south west Dublin , between S90 and Volvo will soon have x3 SUV models - a good replacement for Land rover whose vehicles are becoming too pricey.

Younger people may not be aware but Stuarts where Land rover in Ireland pretty much before the celtic tiger and were a little piece of Britain in Dublin so its quite a big deal for them to lose the brand.

Hi, Landrover have just gone into production of a 2 seat factory All new discovery 5. I have just ordered one, HSE, they are all 3lt and a limited list of options, but cannot get any more info online. Anybody have any more info on them?

I heard that ok and the price was around 56k but this is the standard spec ,,,Is that around the price you were quoted ? All 3.0 ok ..

Up on €71k but fully loaded at that. Wanted the dynamic pack 2, external black pack but they are not doing that for the commercial. Also only black interior available, prefer the lighter options but would be €10k more if I ordered and got converted here. Se and hse only available too.

Im so sick of that, same with the Mercedes x class pickup and a host of other vehicles. Why ohh why do Irish dealers seem to have such a hatred for light coloured interiors.

No info on it but it is probably a bit late to be looking for it if you have already ordered. It seems alot of money for a two seater but if it meets your needs and you like it well wear.

Well it’s not the dealers with the Discovery, it’s actually the factory and for now we are stuck with it. Have you seen/driven the x class ?

The only way it meets my needs is it’s a LR, Have to admit I do love them. The 2 seats is a real spanner in the works but nothing else out there with any real class with 5 seats and qualifying as commercial.

many new Discos sold ? saw 172 - burnt orange one covered in muck - sure it was nice if clean but looked terrible.

I would still worry about viability of these new dealerships / showrooms - land rovers are going so upmarket and expensive.

The dealers “apparently” are only making 6% on the new Discovery 2 seat commercial.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,551 ✭✭✭goochy

that's sounds about right ? land rovers sales for 2017 not that great and with dealers making big investment - it doesn't look good.

will brexit mean extra duties ?

the discovery , discovery sport , velar etc. are so expensive with decent spec. and not competitively priced.

The 2 seat factory Discovery is good news for LR. The SE spec is fairly well speced and not too overly priced. The HSE is about €60k ish inc vodka and tonic so compare that to dealer worked x5 commercial 2 seat and you get a far classier prestigious vehicle.
    With Brexit who knows 🙄🙄

Apart from the 2 seater Disco is there any other commercial SUV making the grade as a 2/5 seater?

After 10+ years of 2 seaters, I got a crew cab last year but I rarely use the back seats.

Still it sure about the rear of the new disco though.

I see there's a 3L 6cyl supercharged petrol but with a stupid 254g/km CO2 level which I imagine will restrict sales both in Ireland and the U.K. Wonder why they are even offering it in RHD.

Because about 30% of the world use RHD, like Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan, South Africa where people have lots of money and don't worry about the tax or CO2 output levels because thats not how vehicles are taxed.

Landcruisers, pajeros and Touaregs are still available new as 5 seat commercials. The majority of SUVs can be got in 2 seat commercial.

I'm not 100% sure what's going on, but the 5 seat commercial loophole is being closed at the start of April this year.

Touareg is in it's death throws now anyway with a new model coming.

I think the EU5 engine in the Pajero has killed off new sales of that from the end of this month - expect a good few pre-reg Mitsi's knocking around next year.

The new 2 Seat Disco looks to be decent value and I'm sure we'll start to see a good number of them on the roads next year.

Yea they can but they are commercialised here by third parties. The Disco 5 is coming straight from the factory so will not need to be ripped apart and bits bolted/welded on. Not sure what they will be like in the back yet as LD are v slow with their website updates. I will find out in February as that when it arrives. Hopefully!!

anyone been into Stuarts lately - as said before listed as service / parts only on LR website and no sign of premises being revamped.
Trinity in Wexford seem to sell vehicles all over place but cant see them spending a fortune on premises revamp.
Bradley galway have moved Renault in with JLR.

Saw a 172 C Discovery HSE TDV6 - looked ok until you consider its price and fact it doesn't have the muscular look you expect from large 4x4 in this class. looks quite feminine.

You sure you looking at the right vehicle 😬. The Disco sport is the feminine one!!

Anyone know if you can get a 5 seater commercial or maybe import a 7 seater but get it converted before it comes to Ireland to avail of the lower vrt?
Looking at a 2017 but the vrt is 20k.

    Ideally like a 2017/2018 SE 180bhp

New model doesn't qualify as a 5 seat commercial.

If it’s a 2 seat you want then JLR are now making a factory one with only €200 vrt.
I drove a 180 BHP before I ordered mine. Do yourself a big favour and get at least the 240BHP. The 180 is a pig with lag, will drive you crazy. That said the 2 seat Factory commercials only come with the 258BHP 3.0lt.

Just typing with my farmer hat on here, when we get a new diesel engine in the yard whether it's in a car/jeep/tractor we 'drive 'the brains out of it', by that I mean we run it in hard, get it up to temperature as quick as possible and work it hard and hot. In the long run (years) the engines run in hard always perform better.
I only bought a new car once, a ford escort td, every time I sat in it I tried to tip 90, and I'm not talking km/hr. Years later it was being serviced by the main dealer and he wanted to know what I did to it, the car was just so lively compared to other diesel cars in for servicing.

Just wondering if the posters on here do the same with a new land rover? Sorry for going off topic.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Treat em mean keep em keen!!! Not sure the 180bhp would be much better doing that to it, it has only 1 turbo if I’m not mistaken. The one I drove had a few thousand klms on it too. I drove a velar with the 240 in it just after and the difference was amazing. Prob a lot of power to be pushing out of a small 2lt engine I would think?

just seen theres press release on Discovery commercial - the base model seems to be 3 litre TDV6 auto from €52,695 ??
assume the low commercial road tax is why this model is being promoted.
with Bradley Galway loosing the franchise theres now no dealer in the West.
Trinity motors seem to do good deals but they have not and cant see them revamping their premises - so that will be another dealer going.

Yea that’s for the SE model, HSE is €59k plus €10k fully loaded. There’s only a small extras list unlike the 100’s of options on the private ones. Mine supposed to be arriving end of Feb. Auto Bolands in Waterford have been consistent with the best deals I have found over the years. I shop around each time and always end up in Bolands.
Yes the cheap tax and also only €200 vrt which means an instant €10k ish saving, throw the vat off and they are quite good value for a prestigious vehicle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,551 ✭✭✭goochy

do you live near Bolands or did you pick them over your local dealer ?with the fancy new premises though , surely they have to make more of a profit now ? with millions spent on premises you cant be operating on tight margins.
The dealer in cork has never been known for good deals which is why so many JLR vehicles in cork are bought elsewhere . that's even before the standalone premises are built !

land rovers sales for last year were decent but not brilliant , assume is was made up of a lot of Disco. sports ?

I live in cork but just couldn’t get a deal from local lads. The first Disco I did buy from them but at that they had to come down to others price. Vinny in Bolands is who I deal with since and he’s saved me a total of almost €15k in two new ones.

spoiltkid1 how are you getting on with your Discovery ?
not seeing many new Landies around Cork this year , usually dealer has loads of vehicles with sold signs

any idea how Velar is doing ?

Still waiting for delivery. Last week in Feb apparently now.
Seen a few Velars around but not many. Too expensive once they are specked up I think.

I went for the HSE and got it fully loaded. Not too many extras available on the commercial ones, about €10k worth.

is it that they're not on the list or just included, like I can understand rear seat entertainment being not available, but whatever B&O/Meridian sound system they're doing for 3k these days should be.

They are just not available here like the UK commercials that can be specced to the hilt. Black leather the only choice for example. The SE model would be basic enough but the HSE comes with some goodies as standard. I couldn’t get the black Dynamic 2 pack so I’m getting Bolands to get the bits and bobs and put them on them selves. There basically 7 extras available for the HSE model. Thankfully they come with 3lt as standard.

Guess what.... it’s not available in the commercial!!! And personally I’d have to say I wouldn’t get it anyhow. I actually like the headache inducing rear end as it is, it’s a reminder if nothing else of its origins.

I can see the nod to it's origins but at least the previous model had the diped glass panel and spare wheel bracket space to complement the off set square no. plate .
But to me the new one with out the fix just looks wrong.
Any way just my opinion and it won't affect me as I can't afford one unfortunately
Best of luck with your one & well wear when you get it.
Jeezz just seen the pics very very nice with the body enhancments the square type no. plate dosent look as bad as our long ones on it

Just a pity they have to be ordered as add on bits by the garage. I worry about them taking off the silver lettering and sticking on the black, but they be professionals I guess hopefully it be grand.
Good point re the number plate, hadn’t thought of that so it’s an agreed must. I’ll post some pics here when I get her, just to show off like 😜.

some dealers have 2 litre commercials for sale - but on land rover price list and official launch - it just said 3 litre v6 ?

Stuarts still have new vehicles in showroom but assume they are getting from other dealers or its the last of their new stock.

I would imagine Trinity in wexford ( who seem to do good deals as sell vehicles all over the place ) wont be revamping their premises and therefore will lose the franchise ?
a pity but cant blame any of the dealers who decided against it.

The 2litre ones are all commercialized here, only 3 litre available in factory commercial here. I would imagine nobody would want a converted one now as they would cost approx €10k more and probably be worth €10k less on trade in, especially a litre one. Trinity initially wanted €6,500 more off me then dropped to match my dealers price instantly. Pays to shop around!!!

the resale value on the 2 in commercial will tumble quick, privately the lower tax rate helps but when its a fixed 333 why would anyone want an asthmatic 2 litre over a silky V6
