"As the 1916 Centenary year comes to a close, join Clare Byrne, Kathryn Thomas and Bryan Dobson as we look back on a momentous year for Ireland".

I don't know about the rest of ye, but I honestly can't wait.. And when the grandkids ask me 'what did you do on New Year's Eve of 2017', I shall simply smile and say .. 'I spent it with Claire Byrne' ..

My post from the NYE TV thread in After hours ...

She's singing live but it's not an easy song to sing : that wasn't pitch perfect

It wasn't that, it just looked like she the shape of her mouth didn't match the words exactly.

Any more exciting, a funeral's going to break out.*

    *Kudos, Rodney Dangerfield (Caddyshack)

Part 2 can only be an improvement. Apart from Mise Eire, sung so well, and in fairness that's quite sombre in tone.

All pre recorded too. Make no mistake.

The presenters are having a drink or two and a bloody good laugh in their own homes now. As is the Prez.

    Happy New Year all.

Banks? well they can f**k right off. That elk must owe them a few million, otherwise they would be just repossessing his house.

Jason Smith has a bit of a racket going... I've never seen him go outside his lane.

Thought it was going to be the ubiquitous O'Donovan brothers!

Claire doesn't really do light entertainment despite learning at the hands of the master... Daithi O'Se...

Jason Smith looks beyond thrilled to be there.

With all due respect to his writing talents but Colm Toibin looks a little scary to me.. Can't really say what it is..

This is actually pretty cool for RTE, a live broadcast from New York featuring members of the Irish American community.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,869 ✭✭✭PeterTheNinth

What sort of audience did RTE expect tonight?
    This is off the wall...

Janey Fionnuala had grown. 49 now if my maths are right. 26 in 1993 for eurovision.

It is New Year's Eve, right?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,520 ✭✭✭nagdefy

I remember in 2000 RTE had a 'Titanic' themed Christmas with movies, documentaries etc. It was crazy. This 1916 theme reminds me of it.

Will they interview Dickie Rock about when he fought at the GPO?

    Sorry for shouting, but....

MOST THINGS ON TV (AND POSSIBLY RADIO TOO) FOR NYE ARE PRE RECORDED.

    Happy New Year to all.

RTE have always tended to go for a more serious type NYE with lots of reflection on the year rather than the more 'light entertainment' party fare on the British channels.

ffs, they should play one full song, one of their hits, and then give you the option of watching the rest of the set (i.e. all their sh1t songs) on the player... Is it that hard, honestly, is it?

Can't stand Bressie, since his music career is back on track I expect his depression career will take a back seat.

    Claire is lovely though :)

Kathryn Tomas - pain in hole.

    London GAA, cringe.

BBC 1 is where it is at. Gary and Paul O'Donovan just put up a masterclass on Graham Norton.
