Right, as requested, some wanted to move back to a table based format, with simplicity as the stated aim.

1)So, simple as you like, quote the latest post, remove any commentary, update the table with your new totals, don't mess with formatting or anyone elses data, and repost.

2)Make sure to quote the latest post, it will be a PITA to rearrange this if data gets lost, won't have the roll back features of the google sheet, but we'll figure it out.

3)If there are any issues drop me a PM and i'll get things fixed up.

4)Joe Bloggs has had a good start to the year, but it's useful to have an example entry there for people to copy, once we get some data in I'll remove Joe as i think his tri season is going to be very short this year, he's already PB'd on everything

No monthly targets with this format, so if you want the old annual targets, they are:
    Bronze targets: Swim 100km/Bike 2000km/Run 800km
    Silver targets: Swim 200km/Bike 4000km/Run 1600km
    Gold targets: Swim 400km/Bike 8000km/Run 3000km

    Best of luck all!!

Cheers Mossy, thanks for setting this up.

Every year I debate whether or not its a good idea to join this SBR, as it logs and "rewards" distance. I'm competitive, and Sprint focussed, so junk milage is a concern. However having tracked it the past few years, the lads and lasses racing well- across all distances- have been the ones close to the top of the table. As Racoon Queen said elsewhere, its the extra incentive to get off your arse when someone "overtakes" you on the table, that is the main benefit.

Best of luck all in 2017!

Seeing as i was one of the ones agitating for this table, it's only manners to join in.

FWIW; I think the thread should be unstickied. Let it stand on its own merits. If enough people want it, it'll stay on the first page of the forum.

I agree with Zico. I think stickies can go unnoticed at the top of the forum. Having it pop up at the top of the recent threads might make more "clickable" so others might pop in for a look and maybe even stay.

I'll play or prop up the table! Easily in the worst shape of my life at the moment (Nothing in the last 6 months and weight piled on) but since we have gone back to the original version of the SBR and manual stuff (May the force be with you Mossy!), I'll support it with my little numbers this year.

And since I missed the Goal by Jan 1 thread. The goal is couch to sub 3 DCM this year. No big multi day races (Back to those in 2018) but some other fun events hopefully. Life has to take priority for a change

EDIT: Oh and I agree with unsticking it..

It'll be a lot of running for the time being. Though I'm already feeling guilty about my lack of turbo time

I tend to fail miserably in keeping logs. Starting with great intentions and then not logging, even whilst training continues. Will endeavour to keep this updated this year.
I'm also a super slow runner, hence that's all I've done so far this year..
focussing on improving mostly in that area for 2017

Cheers Mossy, thanks for setting this up.

Every year I debate whether or not its a good idea to join this SBR, as it logs and "rewards" distance. I'm competitive, and Sprint focussed, so junk milage is a concern. However having tracked it the past few years, the lads and lasses racing well- across all distances- have been the ones close to the top of the table. As Racoon Queen said elsewhere, its the extra incentive to get off your arse when someone "overtakes" you on the table, that is the main benefit.

Best of luck all in 2017!

Maybe not a place to start this debate but what constitutes junk mileage?

Personally and I know this is just an opinion, I don't believe there is such a thing for 90% of people. The reason I say that is because the vast majority of people don't ever train to the point where diminishing returns become a major problem imo. Even in events like the sprint triathlons, the major component in performance is aerobic in nature. Someone who hasn't reached that point of finding their personal sweetspot (which is the major majority) will still see major gains from volume at easy and aerobic efforts. Even at easy pace, volume pays dividends because time spent exercising has major benefits to the cells responsible for energy efficiency and in building new and more blood capillaries along with helping stroke volume just to name a few which are all highly relavant even when it comes to very short events lasting not long more than a couple of minutes nevermind events lasting an hour or two or even more.

It's a rare thing to see someone not doing enough quality but extremely to see someone who is doing enough volume. That's where I disagree with Kurt and why I think these tables are so good, In a perfect world imo, getting in the volume first makes the intensity down the road have a better effect. The stronger you get aerobically, the more intense efforts you your body can recover from.

Fair enough, the person doing the sprint triathlon won't have the same volume as someone doing an ironman but I think these tables as are supposed to help the community as a whole rather than just one person. Everyone likes to be win but the more people that get involved, the better it will be for the improvement of both the forum and the improvement of the triathletes involved.

Junk miles= Distance>intensity, when intensity is the goal of the session.

I haven't a clue what the above means.
Volume at easy pace in the pool is rarely productive. Took me a couple of years to figure that out, mainly because I came from a distance running background and figured what worked for one sport should work for another. Volume at easy pace in the pool would be a perfect example of what I'd consider junk miles.

I'll be honest, swimming isn't my thing and I know you are fairly well versed in that so I'll bow to your superior knowledge on that.

I see where you are coming from on the definition of junk mileage but I don't think many people will drop the scheduled intensity of workouts in favour of distance to go higher up the tables. It's my opinion that most people value intensity over volume so I don't see that as being an issue. I think that it is more likely to encourage people to add an extra run, cycle or swim to their week or go for an extra bit of distance on the long ride or run. Basically, make more time for training and get a bit competitive and I don't think that's junk training, it will help.

I may have picked you up wrong but when I read junk training, I interpretated as you looking at the small negatives that could arise rather than the bigger picture of positive competition as a whole.

I only meant "junk milage" in my own personal context- previous years I'd got carried away with chasing numbers rather than the training program. A personal flaw! I did a run session earlier, main purpose was faster than race pace minute interval, but I extended the out-and-back and ended up doing a 16 min easy cooldown when a 5 minute would have done. I don't think there was much benefit in that extended cooldown and I'd class the extra as junk miles. However, I'm going to the pool tonight (when I'd prefer to skip the session as I'm tired after a busy week) purely because Zico is ahead of me in the swim table. That's a good example of "positive competition"!

For the record I like the table, think its a great idea, and the more on it the merrier. Are you thinking of joining in yourself?

Better stay in there for 2 hours then, I'm also going to the pool.
