    Hi Guys,

I'm in the market for a project. I have been looking at benq-w1070 as it seems to have good reviews along with an attractive price. Although I'm a little concerned about the contract ratio of 10000:1‎.

As far as I understand, this is rather low. Whats the best projector which you guys recommend ? My budget would be about £500.

    Thanks!

    Hi Doctorg.

    Apologies for the delay.

The Benq W1070 is one of our most popular projectors and we even use it in our Demo room and i have to say I've never noticed any issues at all regarding the contrast.

If your worries you could also look at the Epson EHTW5300 priced up at £429.00

Or for a little over budget there is the Optoma HD142X priced at £529.00 (In store only collection)
    https://www.richersounds.ie/p-202321-hd142x.aspx

Or the Optomas HD27 priced at £549.00
    https://www.richersounds.ie/p-202229-hd27.aspx

I do like the 1070 myself but for the extra few pounds the HD27 is the one to go for.

Let me know what you think.

In term of picture quality, would you say the HD27 is the best in this price range ?

I see the Epson has the highest contrast ratio among these. How much of a factor will it make in terms of picture quality.

Also, what are you thoughts on LCD vs DLP technology.

Unfortunately you guys are not in Dublin anymore so I can't see the picture qualities myself

    Hi doctorg,

The difference is really related to price. LCD are great projectors but for a good one you're going to be spending upwards of £2000. LCDs tend to give better contrast ratios and a fuller colour range. You can get cheaper LCD projectors but the difference between these and the more expensive ones is vast. The advantage DLP projectors have over LCD is better motion processing although as the image size is so large you're never going to get rid of a slight image blur. I used to work as a projectionist and even high end industry projectors can't eliminate motion blur.

In the price range you are looking at I would definitely recommend the Optoma HD27. These have a very good contrast ratio and a great image.

I hope you've found this information helpful.

    Many thanks

    David
