    Hi all,

Looking for general advice on purchasing lights. I have one speed light and a set or triggers I'd like to purchase another light for indoor portrait work but not sure whether to go with a strobe or continuous light.

I'm a complete noob when it comes to lights so any advise would be greatly appreciated. Is one type better / easier to learn than the other?

    Thanks

I wouldn't bother with continuous lights unless you want to shoot video. Best thing to do would be to buy into a strobe system that has a good range of native modifiers such as Elinchrom, Profoto, etc...

Anything under 400ws of output is a waste of time/money in my opinion. Also take into consideration the range of power output. What's it's lowest and highest setting? And what is the recycle time like at full power?

Thanks Gloobag. I was looking at these Elinchrom D-Lite RX4&4 Softbox kit

Pricey but they look worth it in the long run..

The D-Lite 4/4 kit is only €799 now in Ireland, and considering you get two good heads, Stands, Softboxes, bags and a Trigger / controller it's great value - just the price of a good lens.
As Gloobag said, Studio flash is the way to go unless you are doing Video.
