Very interesting. If it looks like that, and has the buttons and fingerprint sensor on the front screen, it'll be something else.

They'd want to be able to squeeze in the S7 edge battery capacity into the smaller S8 or it's gonna struggle.
Palm rejection will have to be top notch too if they end up with this form.
    Looks alright though...

Not a fan of cases either but a clear TPU isn't the end of the world. Do those ones fit alright on an edge screen?

I think i be getting the S8 Edge plus if it is truly going to be 6.2 inchs as i do wont a huge phone to use while i am working.

I will be going from a One Plus Three its a fantastic phone but i do kind of miss my S6 edge plus and the fact it was a very good looking phone but the battery life was very bad in it sadly.

So as long as the S8 edge plus has a 4000mhz battery in it. IT will be a day one buy from me.

Alleged pictures of the front panel. Looks likely that there will be edge versions only.

Very exciting. Samsung pushed the boat out with Edge and are pushing the tech even further now with tiny bezels. It'd be class if the fingerprint scanner was under the screen. I'll be due a free upgrade from O2 in April so the timing could be perfect :D

If that's the case, i hope they've sorted the exynos' graphics issues

What issues ? This is a single Antutu synthetic benchmark where the Exynos falls behind Snapdragon. I am sure there are probably other benchmarks which also show this difference. However these are synthetic benchmarks and in reality there is no practical difference in gaming with any of the flagships besides the throttling issues all SOC's have. Same with the iPhone 7. Significantly faster than the Snadragon in nearly all benchmarks when it comes to GPU. I have had a HTC 10 (snapdragon 820), S7 Edge, and Iphone 7 and really have noticed no differences when it comes to gaming. However the Exynos has noticeably better battery life compared to the Snapdragon which I think is more important.

Old news probably. No launch at mobile world congress next month. Guess the reveal might be March with launch in April.

That's good so, I've no first hand experience of the two chips, so was only going on the online comparisons.

Yeah, I think most Android games even run full speed on mid range phones. To put things in perspective I have seen off screen GPU benchmarks showing Apples fusion chip in the latest iphone 7 being up to 70% faster than the S7, HTC 10, and Nexus 6P (another phone I had). But yet I and lots of others have noticed no difference in real life. That's not to say there is no difference but they are very hard to spot. Maybe if somebody starts producing 'console quality' games, things will change. The iPad Pro has been out some time now which absolutely stamps on every mobile device in terms of graphics, but games run no quicker or look better than on an iPad Air 2. same goes with the iPhone 7 over say the 6 or 5SE. I guess developers aren't bothered.

Switched to wireless headphones a good while back and could never go back to wired ones.

They don't need to be charged as regularly as a phone so I don't find it inconvenient.

I'd hazard a guess that if Apple have done it and Samsung end up doing it for their next flagship, a lot of others will follow suit sooner or later.

I tried wireless and found the bluetooth drop outs annoying. The W1 chip on some headphones (apple focused ones) seem to have solved this. Also I have a lot of lossless music on microsd and stream from tidal, so having a good quality wired set is a must. The S7 Edge headphone ouuput isn't great quality or volume wise so I use a dragonfly red external dac and usb audio player pro. This gives it a very slight edge over the HTC 10's separate DAC in terms of quality and usb audio player pro gives you very good volume without having to root. Hopefully Samsung improve the audio package on the S8 or I will be forced to continue with my current regime

Thats because spotify is very low bitrate. Even extreme is just 320 kbps. And most people use either wireless or bundled earphones which is grand with Spotify.

Tidal streaming on the other hand goes up to 1411kbps so paired with good quality phones will have tighter bass, more dynamic range, crisper treble and wider soundstage. However, the other factor is where you are listening and of course how much importance you place on audio quality. If you don't have noise cancelling headphones and are listening on a noisy bus there isn't much point with a high def streaming service or ripping your own high bit rate stuff. Same if you are a casual listener. Spotify in that case is good enough for most people I reckon.

Awful position for reader allright. And I expected at least 6GB ram or rumoured 9GB and a UHD screen for the purposes of a better VR experience.

I will be going for the 6.2 inch model for sure if it's not much bigger than the S7 Edge.

There is a service like Spotify called Tidal that offers the ability to stream high def music and video
    http://tidal.com/ie

    20 euro a month though !!

Alternatively use something like PowerIso to rip your own CD's to Flac (free losless audio codec) files and copy them to an micro sd card to play on your S7.
    http://www.poweriso.com/tutorials/rip-cd-to-flac.htm

A good app to play these back is PowerAmp.

However, I find the digital to analog conversion done by the S7's Dac to be only average (compared to the HTC 10) so even using high quality headphones the sound quality isn't what it should be. Also the volume from the S7's headphone jack is too low partially due to having mediocre voltage output and EU regulations regarding max volume on phones bundled with headphones. Therefore I use a portable external dac (audioquest dragonfly red) which I plug into the S7's micro usb port with an OTG cable and plug my headphones into that. This gets around the quality issue.
    http://www.whathifi.com/audioquest/dragonfly-red/review

However because Android doesn't properly recognise the 64 step digitial volume control on the dac and sets max volume to 22, I use an app called USB Audio Player Pro which bypasses the Android driver and gives me full volume control :)
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.extreamsd.usbaudioplayerpro&hl=en

I have 4 Samsung Evo 256GB micro sd cards full of Flac audio at this stage.

If the S8 plus has a 6.2 inch screen and an s pen, then the Note is probably dead.

    Edit:-
    Scratch that

Agreed on the location of the fingerprint reader. It'd be difficult not to get fingerprint marks and general dirt all over the camera lens. I'll really miss it being on the front tbh and would rather have a button with that function than more screen space. Maybe the iris scanner will be a decent replacement.

Is it really not going to have a physical home button? It's the main reason I use Samsung phones.

You get used to onscreen buttons pretty quickly. I also like having the buttons off the screen, but don't like the clicky home button on Sammy's, think they're awkward to press a lot of the time. Much prefer the home button on the 10, that doesn't actually click.

Whatever about the guesswork about the lack of headphone socket and location of the finger print reader, i think the physical home button is definitely gone.

No physical home button annoys me. I don't know why bit I don't like not having one.

If it has no headphone jack then I'm definitely gone. Is it to make the phone thinner? Who actually wants s thinner phone? I feel like my s7 is going to break when I use it without my case on it. I wish they would make it fatter enabling a bigger battery.

I don't use the fingerprint scanner but I always liked the look in the phones on YouTube that had it on the back. So I'm happy it's on the back now.

I can't imagine this being true - as mentioned in the article it means the narrow bezels would be pointless. The press (and public) would go nuts!! I'm still holding out hope that the fingerprint sensor will be under the screen.

I would wait until it's actually announced, then decide one way or the other.

I could easily be a phone designer, I'd nail it. Just make the Note 7 without the exploding batteries and give it a flat screen. Done.

Considering holding out for this phone. I'm out of contract and my Xperia Z3 is held together by cellotape at this stage.

I was considering the HTC 10 or S7 Edge (which interestingly has gone up €20 this week on three)

€49 for HTC or €199 for Edge or wait for S8????

Might as well wait at this stage as it won't be long. If going for either of the others then the S7 Edge is a no-brainer over the HTC (not 4x better, but you're talking under 200 quid for either).

Was thinking of buying directly from them. Do they normally reduce phones by much when newer models come out?

But yea, I think you are right, I will most likely hold out for the 8

Only clear advantages for the 10 is the audio and dev community. Anything else is important to you, go Sammy.

I'd be waiting to see what the next round of phones has to offer, though.

New leaked photo out, no surprises really given the previous leaks.

Between the length of the screen, the curved version only and rumoured small battery of only 3,000mAh (smaller version) I'm not as dead set on this phone as I could've been. I like that I can use the S7 one handed for the most part.
