Don't mean to be disrespectful to him, he's very brave coming on TV talking about this but every sexual health leaflet you get in school or in youth clubs screams about HIV/AIDS.

I'd like to think him disclosing his naivety about the topic at a younger age will be of great benefit to many watching tonight so fair play to him for coming on.

Is there a bloke by the same name playing soccer for Ireland?
That’s who I thought it was going to be....

Ah so HIV positive for having unprotected sex riding around.

Would lead you to believe it was incredibly naive.

    Not really.
Was aids a big thing in Ireland?

Really? I never got a leaflet about sexual health in school or any club.

In the 80's and 90's it was wall to wall on adverts on tv, radio and public health campaigns. Additionally the arrival of the condom here was marketed as protecting against AIDS.

Surely it's as common a worry in the gay community as an unwanted pregnacy or STIs is/are in heterosexual relations.

So his job is a sexual health educator and he’s just admitted he has unprotected sexual with his hiv negative partner??!

Yes. Quite a lot of people died horrible deaths in the 1980s and 1990s.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

He's asking questions that I can't imagine any other RTE personality asking, and I suspect lots of people are interested in the answers.

The purpose of sex is for procreation.

    I learned this in biology.

I remember during the initial advertising campaigns they said you could get AIDS from a toilet seat, a hand shake etc etc, it was all well exaggerated, you could almost mirror it to how Covid was first sold to us.

A lovely lovely young man. I wish he would come to my kids school.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

And 100% safely too. It's mind-blowing to think that that's possible nowadays.

Have to say I never knew that he wouldn’t be able to transmit the virus once having tested positive....you learn something new every day

    He's giving some mixed messages.

First he's saying "oh I was naive I had unprotected sex and got HIV"

Then he's saying "oh there's medication so I still have unprotected sex"

Not sure exactly what he's trying to convey.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,622 ✭✭✭Baby01032012

Thank god they cut that one short.

How could you not know about HIV, honestly? Someone going to college too, not someone who left school at 14. It's more treatable now but is a massive cost on the health system for wrecklessness.

And what about all the people who smoke or binge drink? They are also a massive cost on the health system.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.
