From arriving into the bank with the correct documents(payslips, bank statements etc), how long does it usually take to get mortgage approved?

In principle minutes. Actual approval that you can rely on days to weeks (2-3 weeks being most likely). The mortgage then has to be approved for a given house so bear that in mind.

My tip is also keep looking even after paying a booking deposit (which is refundable) a good 40-60% (it seems) of sales fall through due to one thing or another.
