Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

  • Redmond has been wasteful at times
Should be doing better to hold up that ball

Be glad to get out of there at 1-0.

Just not happening tonight. Southampton defending well.

If they expect to have a chance on Sunday Liverpool can't play like this again

We wouldn't win at Plymouth playing like this. Southampton have kept us in this tie as much as anything done.

All things considered, 1-0 is alright. Liverpool were absolutely awful and that's a big escape.

Saints needed the 2nd goal i feel we will turn them over at anfield

    Hate losing
Tie could be over in first 20 mins at Anfield when we score 4/

Awful performance throughout.....no away goal will probably kill us in the return.....

  • Decent game to watch but Southampton should have put the tie to bed with the chances they missed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,024 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Meh, as said before the game, 1-0 not the end of the world, still probably just about favourites to get through.

Very disappointing performance though, no-one except Milner looked very up for it.

That was absolutely shocking. Southampton's chance conversion I mean. We should be punishing them in the home leg.

Both teams poor enough but Southampton were the better team and a little more composure and they could have been two up.

We were haunted to get out of there at 1-0

Southampton should have had 2 more

    Absolute reality despite the emotion.

We are bound to have bad games in a season. If this focuses us for the weekend, then it's a good game to endure a poor performance.

Away goals don't count until the end of extra time so really Liverpool should not be that worried about it

My mistake. Expect something, be disappointed :/

They bought half of Southampton's first team and then lost to the Reserves, awful. Some decent saves from Karius and some howlers from Redmond kept them in this tie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,136 ✭✭✭✭Rayne Wooney

    Should have bought Redmond

We need about 8 players in January!

We need a CB if Matip is going to be out for much longer. Like, say, Fonte.

Also need some better talent in midfield. A trio of Can, Lucas and Wjinaldum leaves a lot to be desired.

I fancy Liverpool to win 2-1 tonight and set up for a 3-0 win at Anfield :)

Looking forward to 5 nil at Anfield. :)

Saints shouid have won that by 3 or 4.

Goalkeeper's get so little credit nowadays, every shot on target should've been a goal it seems.

Definitely. Think it was actually the worst performance of the season. Said 10 minutes into the 2nd half that I'd take a 1-0 defeat and get out of there. Should have been much worse.

Well with us, it usually does.

Was that note just a device to distract media attention away from the awful performance?

hopefully the lads were holding in the performance for Sunday.... too many out of sorts at the moment, along with the injuries :(

If you're that distracted by a piece of paper I think you've got greater worries.

Trent Alexander Arnold starts and no Gini Wiji

Starting XI vs Southampton: Karius; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Lovren, Milner; Lallana, Henderson, Can; Firmino, Sturridge, Coutinho

Mignolet, Klavan, Moreno, Lucas, Wijnaldum, Woodburn, Origi

    SOTON

Lallana finally back to midfield, have a feeling it will be a diamond with both Firmino and Sturridge up top rather than one of them on the wing.

Would rather gini than can but that apart loving the team and am expecting a big performance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,932 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

How many kick-offs have we initiated with a Lovren hoof up to the opposition defence lately?

  • Subscribers Posts: 32,855 ✭✭✭✭5starpool

Liverpool's performances surely have to improve. Surely?

Hopefully the atmosphere will stay mostly 'on' tonight rather than reverting to the usual. Second leg of a semi at home should be ok though, but still linked to the performance as well though.

Virgil van Dijk out has to be a big boost to Liverpool tonight. He's quality.

Hope Coutinho is buzzing and would like a good game for Sturridge.

Southampton pressing well so far anyhow, no time on the ball for anyone in red.

its already too slow ,the play

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,932 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Matip pushing up trying to play football, having a defender like that is so valuable.

2 lazy passes from Lovren already, one to Coutinho and one to Milner.

    Can is a head scratcher.

Lovely vision from Couts but asking a bit much of TAA maybe!

Fair enough but give them a chance to settle in and find their feet.
