Turning right onto Nutley Lane traffic

Does anyone know why the traffic to turn right onto Nutley Lane from the N11 has gotten so much worse the past few days?

Yesterday and today it was backed up to before the old Montrose hotel, (which it often is), but it was just at a standstill. Spent 40 minutes there this morning from 7.50am before I inched to the top

Change in the traffic light sequence maybe?

I suspect because Nutley itself was blocked up and they didn't want cars turning right and getting stuck in the middle of the junction. There is a camera at that intersection so the people in the traffic control centre can see the tailbacks. Unlikely to be simply a change in the sequence, those lights don't do a fixed sequence because the filter time for inbound traffic varies depending on the time of day, they get more time in the morning than in the afternoon in the same way as the outbound traffic turning right at Fosters Ave. is favoured during the evening peak.

You can call the city traffic centre on 1 800 29 39 49 and tell them what's happening, on Twitter you can follow @livedrive and you can listen to live traffic reports on Dublin City 103.2 FM.

Young Scientists in the RDS mightn't have helped. Lot more traffic making it's way towards RDS (I know RDS turn would be next turn, but many may think of hitting it that way to avoid Simmonscourt traffic)

It has been getting worse for years. Mostly, it is just due to volumes of traffic which can be particularly high at random times and or due to traffic light interventions as pointed out by coylemj.

For added fun they put up a no left turn sign a few years ago to stop drivers turning left in to Greenfield Park and then coming across the junction in to Nutley Lane on the next change.

This was added to the no left turn sign to stop rat running from Nutley Lane in to Nutley Road !

Even though the two no left turn signs have limited operational times they help add to the misery especially when people encounter them for the first time thinking that they would have a handy short-cut !
