Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Thanks once again ButtersSuki, your analysis (above) is extensive and I can easily understand that you are going some distance to give me your perspective. I wish too that I had more time to be a more regular contributor.

I am relatively new to taking to Boards, gleam more often though.

As an academic, I take it that you have more info than that profered by Red Kev, but didn't find 'hard evidence' in his post to convince me otherwise (you above all should know 'red-top' papers are not serious stuff). As someone in the media area, you must also know that you must have 'primary' information - is this in your posts and could you give me pointers please - to back up your claims.

As I read down through your post, I think I am beginning to understand how we are approaching this issue from different viewpoints. A lot of your post concentrates on the money, either marketeers buying slots or th overall RTE stream of income for this slot. Funnily enough, I see the program, firstly as Public Broadcasting - giving a platform to voiceless citizens (and I don't mean to belittle anyone by that), and/or raising to a national audience, issues of a wider public concern. Neither of these issues are areas of 'money-spinning' broadcasting (Nor should they be), this in my view is real Public Broadcasting and the spirit of. That RTE can command such a large audience justifies to us, as taxpayers, just why we need this type of radio and long may it live!!

Also, somewhere in the furthest parts of my recall, I think I learned that JD studied Social Science - not an area to become a 'quick-rich merchant'. This is an area where there is great empathy with others…and for all of his failings, he seems to have brought that onto the national airwaves. I wish we could be a little more empathetic to someone in the public eye.

Can I ask for the purposes of clarity do you work in PR or are you associated with RTE or Joe Duffy in any capacity?

Normally, would be a 'private' person and reluctant to be open on a site like this where everyone is anonymous....but I'm in agriculture, down in Tipp (Next to my ol' pal Dan Jaman - only joking Dan ;)).
I think I saw JD once in my life, but never spoke to him in any capacity nor do I know any of his family ets. I never worked in either PR or RTE. Love Public Broadcasting BBC, PBS & RTE. Tried the commercials but quickly closed down their dials :P

Mary Wilson has to be the worst. She pronounces British as Brishish. Not with a soft T in the middle but a full on BriSH ish. It's a T Mary not an SH.

Don't get me started on her Depushy polishical edishor.

In the spirit of Liveline's latest fixation (gambling), I'll see your Mary Wilson -> Depushy polishical edishor, and raise you a Mary Wilson -> Olivia O'Lairy

understandable I suppose from a British point of view. The name O'Leary is from the Irish O'Laoghaire, pornounced as you say above. But you wouldn't understand even after trying to beat the crap out of our pronunciations:rolleyes::rolleyes:

No doubt Joe will issue an edict to refuse any advertising or promotion from the Lottery during his caller driven show.

Thanks for clarifying. I had to ask as your view on Duffy is frankly one I can't understand given (just) the weight of evidence presented to you unless you were a vested interest of course.

Though I would never pay for a red top personally you can't dismiss everything in them as being completely untrue. They take a slant on a story for sure, but in the case of the example you were given the facts are freely available elsewhere. The figures are the figures after all, whether published in The Oirish Sun or The Irish Times.

I'd really love to list all of the examples I have right now with the evidence you require attached but I'm genuinely swamped at the moment, and I'm away from this weekend until March 7th in the US with work. If you have time however and want some insight, go to my posts and filter them by "Radio" and then "Most Thanked" you'll get an altogether different perspective on the man. There's a satirical "Me Weekly Column" piece there too for your entertainment.

I look forward to seeing how much your view will have changed on the man in say 3-6 months. Once you see behind the facade you'll be shocked at how deep the deception runs.

there was a good discussion about it on the last word last night. Worth listening to. one doctor who had a hand in the building and setting up of a number of private hospitals, and another who has being involved in the setting up of the childrens hospital. The doctor involved in the private hospitals made a whole lot more sense.
