Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    PBH Shows: 0
    D'Omen Shows: 0

Why would the Dept of Social Protection bother checking who's using travel passes. Don't they pay the same subvention anyway based on the number of passes issued, not on the number of journeys taken?...........or maybe I've got it wrong?

  • Registered Users Posts: 724 ✭✭✭Park Royal

These guys should understand its better to have some bums on seats , buses or trains .....than none and prove

the service is not needed........the fundamental point is to get the services used ......after that try to get the

    fare paying passenger numbers up.

I would pose the question how many in these services are actually engaged in selling their services.....

of course the Dept feels the services should "sell" themselves ....

Ray sounds like the type of bus driver who'd close the doors and speed away if you were running for a bus and drives in the gutthars to soak pedestrians.

Is D'Arcy driving busses now too?

I'll come clean and say that I had a Free Travel Pass for 2 years when I was looking after the 'oul lad in the last couple of years of his life.

I had the original paper one, which was changed to the new card when that system was rolled in. Used it maybe once every two months when I used to get a day or two rrelief from my siblings and head to Dublin for the day.

When the 'oul fella passed away I got a letter after maybe 4 weeks telling me to show up at the SW office to have the card changed back to the standard one. Got a fair few dirty looks from various bus and train employees, but you just let it roll off your back.

Never saw any trouble on the train. Only trains that I know with issues with fighting were the Waterford one on a Sunday evening as the stags and hens going back to Dublin used to create murder.

Is Derry Ann really suggesting that a bus driver has no right to check whether his/her passengers are correctly ticketed?

That gives them a good competitive advantage then of not having to haul people around who are in some cases taking the piss.

Question I have about this free travel pass - with private bus companies a passenger gets on and flashes the pass, how is this recorded, i.e. how does the private bus operator get reimbursed for that journey from the Dept of social welfare or whoever?

Lets not forget the big cheque the Department of Social Protection send to RTE for the "free" TV licence.

It's not just Bus Eireann Joe. What about all the SW cards being used on Dublin Bus?

What does your mother use when she goes in to the Kylemore to meet you on a Saturday for a cup of coffee? Cash?

If you have a card, you're allowed to use it. It's the initial issuing of the cards that are the problem.
