Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Question I have about this free travel pass - with private bus companies a passenger gets on and flashes the pass, how is this recorded, i.e. how does the private bus operator get reimbursed for that journey from the Dept of social welfare or whoever?

I dont know exactly how it works in other places, but in my town we have two main private bus companies. One does not accept Travel passes at all and when i travel on the other one, the driver gives a docket where I have to fill in my name,PPS Number, date, etc., and my destination. I assume these are submitted to the Department for re-imbursement.

The company is losing money and could potentially have to lay off drivers in the future, of course there is an opportunity cost for carrying passengers for free you moron.

It is absolutely ridiculous how he tries to make out that he has no opinion on the topic. When he is orchestrating the whole thing.

Jeez, it's going up by the hour.
Local TD Peter Fitzpatrick has received assurances from the Minister for Social Protection, Leo Varadkar, that there is no proposal to introduce a charge on the free travel pass for elderly people.

Rumours of a possible €50 annual charge for the pass had emerged this week following proposals in an internal Government report

However, Deputy Fitzpatrick said that the Fine Gael Government had no plans to introduce such a charge and released a statement today to put those who avail of it at ease about the situation.

He said: “Approximately 873,000 people are eligible for the free travel pass and depend greatly on it. This includes elderly people and people with disabilities.

The companion should have to be pre registered by name, say 3 nominees per card and they also carry photo ID.
