Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Cameroon have come from 1-0 down to beat Egypt and take the African Cup of Nations title. I had it on in the background so don't know how either side played but it was a great goal to win it from Aboubakar in the final minutes:

Your 2017 African Cup of Nations winners are Cameroon who came from 1 down to be the 1st team from below the Sahara desert to beat Egypt in 15 years in the African Cup of Nations. Winning the Final 2-1

Joel Matip tucked up in bed the day after losing 2-0 to Hull while Cameroon go on to win the AFCON. Bet he can't wait for his grandchildren to ask where he was on this day.

They might not have won it if he was there, mid table level player at best.

    Not just him either.

Moting (Schalke), Assembe (Nancy), Nyom (West Brom), Amadou (Lille), Onana (Ajax), Poundje (Bordeaux) and Anguissa (Marseille) were all called up and declined.

A pal of mine from Cameroon has been talking **** about them ever since they got into the semi finals :D

    Onana was right to decline.
Became Ajax' first choice after Cilessen left en Krul, on loan from Newcastle, wasnt fit yet.
He would have been 2nd choice at best for cameroon and krul would have taken over his position at Ajax.
He didnt go to the ACON, kept his spot at Ajax and now Krul has left and gone to AZ Alkmaar.

Don't know how importantly Africans treat the AFCON (and I would imagine playing it every 2 years instead of 4 does not help it become any more prestigious), but apply your logic to an Irish player missing out on winning the Euros.

He didn't win one of the biggest trophies his national team will ever win but at least he kept his place in a club side that was good about 20 years ago?

    Makes no sense.

He is 20. First choice "by accident"* at the no 2 in the league.
He would have been better off sitting on the bench for 4/5 weeks and lose his place at Ajax?
He thought about his career first, just as he did when he moved from Barca to Ajax.

And you are not seriously comparing Cameroon to Ireland as it comes to chances in winning continental prices and the Irish league to the Dutch one, i hope?

(*= Ajax never really had the idea of promoting him for good and got Krul in. Took much longer to get him fit and Onana did well enough to not replace him once Krul was finally fit)

He still missed out on a major international trophy (and I guess recognition in his home country) to keep a first team place at a team that has been crap for 20 years. If he was any good he would win back his place or move. He might never win an international trophy again.
