Is Fire Hopping Gone in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe?

    Good riddance. I hate it.

Hoping Argos has this for €50 next weekend Smyth's still €54.99 looks like it'll be a lot of fun in handheld mode.

Sooooo.... 4 player at 1080p in TV mode. How many players can play tabletop / on the go?

Also, Gamestop have Mariokart 8 Deluxe "Standard version" listed on the site - is that a suggestion that there's a Double Deluxe with bundled tat? Maybe wheels and joycons and what-not?

Assisted steering is going to be fantastic. Had to try (unsuccessfully) to defuse a massive crying session yesterday with my 5 year old who never wins (because she's a quitter! telling her that didn't help, for some reason) but at least now she can compete.

Jesus. Need to finish Zelda before this comes out.

    But I don't want to.

    But I have to.

    But I don't want to.

Graaagh. How did it come to this?

Zelda is for those quiet contemplative moments alone, punctuated by extreme bursts of violence and pain. Which, if like me you're over 40, is a great description of and perfect accompaniment to most trips to the bathroom.

Mariokart is a more communal experience. I don't think they clash. No, they perfectly compliment each other. Remember all that time you used to spend not playing Zelda? Kart Time! Rally round the family, pocket full of green shells!

This game and its reviews irk me in a number of ways. No new added tracks, doesn't fix some of the online problems, still no voice chat, only in lobby, fixes what should have been fixed years ago, i.e. Battle Mode. This is now what the Wii U version should have been. €60 for comparatively little effort when stacked against the Wii U version. Yet it gets a free pass? Not in my book it doesn't. It hasn't added anything the Wii U couldn't do. 1080p/60FPS and portability are by-products of the Switch, not things they had to slave over. I hate greed and is partly why I dislike 1, 2 Switch.

If you're a newbie to the game then fantastic, you're in for a treat and it's a 10 but for us Wii U owners it leaves a bitter taste.

This came as a total surprise to me. Where is the easy going Sligsipoos we've all come to love and cherish????

    :D

I can't help but feel that in 15 years time, I'm going to be blind and in a wheelchair, begging at the exit gates for a Hovertrain platform, a tin cup clutched in my gnarled hands, still complaining about how these youngsters playing Mario VR Tennis Smash on their Phone Goggles will never understand because they weren't there, man, they didn't see. Now gimme 5 spacebucks for my special juice!

Still gonna buy it... but I can't help but feel I'll have to buy it digital and pretend to the missus that I got it free. If you have a convincing lie to explain where the 2nd set of JoyCons and the 4 wheels came from, answers on a post card....

nintendo switch = 60€ hold most games of nintendo switch are 70€ so mario kart 8 is 10 € cheaper then most games on nintendo switch

wiiu verison including dlcs = €70

I'm a Wii U owner and doesn't leave a bitter taste at all. I can still play the Wii U version if I wanted bar the battle mode. If I was buying Mario Kart just for the altered battle mode I'd question myself getting worth out of a game. On Switch I'm going to be playing Mario Kart probably more than I ever will have before with any other title in the series, because of the ease of using it at home and in portable. I can fully understand someone not thinking it's worth buying if they already have it of course, like with any other port. Switch ports though, because of how the system works, is going to be better value to a lot of people than previous systems ports.

switch version for me is an instant buy and Inown a Wiiu and mk8. This has be the
Mode for me that's worth another buy. Doesn't matter what came before.
It's a perfect game in 1080p for less than most other
    Top tier titles.
Doesn't bear whinnying about. It's a class game you can play anywhere. Don't understand how
    Anyone can be annoyed.

I remember tradeing in Need for Speed for the PS4 when it came out for Fifa14 and still had to pay 10 euros extra in CEX i think i paid 65 euros for it 2nd hand.

As someone who will definitely buy Mario Kart (more likely the cartridge rather than digital) where are you getting it for ?42 please and thanks ;-)

If you're gonna pay Gamestop prices (which people who frequent gaming forums probably don't cos they're a tad savvier at this point) you could argue every single PS4/Xbox One game is 75-80, minimum.

I don't even recall the Wii U version being 70 beans. Maybe the special edition of it was?

They must mean £42 as I've searched all over and that's the best price to be found. Amazon at £42 would be best as postage is free whereas other sites like Base, though the same price charge for postage.

Is there any news on non standard version?

I preordered in Gamestop weeks ago (That's right, Gamestop. Because I like having game shops in the world.)

They didn't say nothin' about no special edition.

    Allow me to explain.
I bought Mariokart on the Wii U. It was great.
When I bought it, I got a free game download (LoZ : WindWaker), as part of a promotion, which was amazing value.
I then bought the DLC, which was also amazing value considering the number of tracks it added relative to the cost of the original game.

Due to the pressures of family life, I mostly played Mushroom cup on 50cc but thankfully was able to do so using an array of controllers left over from the Wii, minimising costs. All in all, a feckin' bargain.

A few years later, I bought a Switch, and in doing so had to retire the Wii U and relinquish it's position under the Telly. This was a very expensive indulgence.
Playing Mariokart 4-player will necessitate the purchase of - at a minimum - 1 set of joycons, probably with some form of specialist grip at least for the adults. That's a very expensive indulgence.
Tabletop only seems to support 2 players (all the picks show either 2 players or 4 players with 2 switches). I'm going to need another switch! An hilariously expensive indulgence, unless I sell my Nes Mini to a rich fool, in which case it's practically free.

But you see how it can be seen, if one is selfishly motivated, as a total reversal of the MK8 WiiU situation... Considering that all they've done here is ramp up the resolution, tweak the handling and fix a mode that really should have been right on the WiiU release, is this a full price title? And shouldn't there be some consideration for those of us who already paid for this game, albeit at a slightly lower resolution?

No, of course not. I don't have to buy it.

But I WILL buy it again. And they know I'll buy it again, and more controller, and plastic gick to stick those controllers into. And they know I will both love them and hate them for it, the kind of furiously ambiguous passion that's reserved for silver wedding anniversaries and the 30 seconds between when you see your dealer coming down the street but before he knocks on your door.

Why do they let me do this to myself? Why don't they stop it? Couldn't they throw in a couple of new tracks so I don't feel so dirty?

In conclusion, I believe my annoyance is an externalisation of my self-loathing and is probably more to do with my failure to isolate and exterminate my id than the game itself.
