I have seen the normal day/night revolving disc type esb meters that give you your daytime and night time usage readings in one meter. Seen this esb meter in a cabinet and wonder if its just a digital day timer meter or fancy day time/ night time meter in one if such thing exists.

Do you have to get esb to put you on night time rate to make use of the cheaper tariff or can you simply avail of the cheapar cost by using your appliances after a certain time. Can someone confirm the cost of the two tariffs

The digitall ones are usually day / night meters but you have to request a tarriff change from your electricity provider in order to benefit from cheaper night rate electricity.
The annual standing charge is about €50 more so you need to work out if your usage justifies this or not.
