nothing new,its happening all over the country, its a real problem.

During September till December I came across way too many deer without heads in Wicklow. If your gonna poach a deer at least use the meat and don't be a total wànkbag. Country is fücked. More interested in bringing people to court over a bald tyre than bringing poachers to justice.

Hopefully drone technology in the near future will be a usefull tool in dealing with all types of wildlife crime. Its already being deployed with some success in vast African game reserves to combat Rhino and elephant poachers.

I'm still waiting for signs to be erected inside Coillte woods in relation to poaching and wildlife crimes etc as proposed a while back .....so don't hold your breath for the drones.......how many counties are covered by one or two rangers.....how many dog wardens for the country?

The thing about drones though is that you seriously reduce costs in terms of manpower and other expenses when it comes to covering large areas for the purpose of anti-poaching patrols. In the likes of South Africa they are starting to replace expensive helicopter surveillance of large areas with massive cost savings in the process. Though as ever you are probably right about this country being Paddy last when it comes to such iniatiatives:rolleyes:

Yeah once you go away and get someone trained up to fly one of these things with a drone pilots liscense at between 700 to 1000 euros a pop and then buy the UAV which meets some burrocrats exacting demands, and who has never seen a drone in their life [and proably expects a predator UAV complete with Hell fire missiles for 1000 euros no doubt].Then you have to deal with the chicken shts in the legal dept who are afraid of being sued by the poacher because their "privacy rights "were violated by being filmed by the UAV!!
No joke on the last one..You now must inform all and sundry in Austria if you put up a deer cam and lest some snowflake is filmed walking by the camera, and you must sign up for data protection if your camera transmits the pics by SMS!!
