Requirement to have legal advice when signing homeloan mortgage?

    Can anyone tell me if it is a legal requirement that a bank ensures that a person has received legal advice when signing a mortgage loan offer for a homeloan? Or is it just best practice?

    If so could i please be directed to the law or regulation.
